A fascinating narrative and photos, once again, Mel. I remember watching the monks and others crawl on their stomach to their temple in Lhasa and amazed at the dedication and sacrifice.

Very interesting set! It is comforting to see that the monastery and its monks have recovered from the March 2008 murderous repression by the Chinese authorities which left hundreds dead or jailed. Sera was then a hot spot of the Tibetan uprising. I have a set of slides I took in 1985 which look surprisingly similar...

My photos were taken nearly twenty years ago. Chinese repression continues, but now that they have more control it is much more subtle than it was when you, and even I were there.
