A few weeks ago I had time for a short trip out West and spent a day in each of the above national parks hiking. All 3 were so beautiful, each in their own way. All told, I hiked 36 miles in those 3 days and put about 1000 miles on the rental car. I also was fortunate enough to get chosen for a permit to hike Angels Landing in Zion, which was terrifying.

Spectacular views, MWojton!

Very nice, especially the Bryce shot. I've been to all three of these parks a number of times (my avatar is a shot from Bryce I took in 2011).

Whirlwind tours can be fun, but I prefer spending a few days in one location to see more than can be seen in a single day. On the other hand, I once got off I-90 in Indiana and drove a few miles north to cross into Michigan, and then I turned around and got back on the interstate to continue east, just to check off Michigan on my list of states I've visited -- which is 38 and counting, but it would have been 37 otherwise.

In my defense, I was around 2,000 miles into a 7,000-mile road trip, so I wasn't going to miss that chance. And I turned around in a Walmart parking lot where I spotted an Amish horse-drawn carriage, the only one I've ever seen, even though I traversed states better known for Amish populations.

I'm pretty widely travelled as well, and I agree. There are some beautiful places in the world! But none of them beat the National Parks, especially of the western U.S.!

The first two are from Death Valley: Zabriskie Point and Mesquite Dunes. Next is Zion, from Canyon Overlook I think. And the last is Bryce, from one of the visitor parking lots -- same place I shot my avatar, looks like.

Very nice - thanks for sharing. Only way I would get to see that shot of zion even if I got a permit. Knees don't work too well any more.
