Located in East Haddam CT and part of a 184 acre state park. The castle was built by William Gillette an actor, playwright and director. It took 20 men 5 years (1914-1919) to complete. All interior woodwork is made from hand
hewn white oak. It has 47 oak doors, no two alike.

Ugly as hell. Who in their right mind would want to live in a stone pile like that. Well, to each his/her own. JMO

Five years to build!? Looks like the stone work was thrown together in a day or two. I hope the interior looks better!

When I lived in Connecticut, the castle was an occasional visit. Your picture, tho interesting and mostly accurate, doesn’t imho reflect the experience of actually visiting it.

Is it lit at night? Could be selectively interesting.
