A Complication with the Vello FreeWaye Plus II Wireless Remote on my Canon R6

I recently ordered a Vello FreeWave Plus II Wireless Remote from B&H. In the trouble shooting sections, there is a disclaimer that when some cameras are set for rear focus, the remote will not work for AF. I use remote focus whenever I can for my wildlife shots. Does any Canon R6 user know any way to rapidly change from rear focus to regular focus when set for AF? There is no way I would want to go through the ordeal/time of changing my rear focus setting back to regular focus setting in my kind of photography. Think the only reasonable option is to set the lens in MF and hope the subject is sharp.

You could switch you camera over to full auto. That is something I do when I hand my camera to someone. The camera will revert to the default half shutter button setting

Set up custom modes for your 2 use cases, one for normal shooting with BBF and one for use with the remote with half press shutter focus.

Get the Canon remote.
Works perfectly on the R6.

Pair with your smartphone and use the "Canon Camera Connect" app. No wires and fairly complete control of camera. Pairing is a bit of a fuss, but once completed, you can put camera in airplane mode when you don't need remote control. Turn off airplane mode when you want to use remote shooting. Easy-peasy.

IHH61, Thanks for your response. I did not want to trust the custom setting until I heard from a R6 users. Now, I will try your recommendations.

Capn_Dave, Thanks for you suggestion. I shoot on FV and that allows mostly automatic. Does not resolve the rear focus issue.

I agree on the Canon Camera Connect. I have been using it with my R5 and R7 with good luck. Also agree pairing is a little tricky at first, but after getting it works very well and it is free.

Think I have the R6 set for both default focus on custom with the Vello and back focus for my normal shooting. I should have tried hcmcdole's and DaveJ's phone app. plan before buying the Vello. I may go ahead and try the smartphone system for a backup--especially if it allows my back focus settings. I can still use the Vello remote on my old 7D Mark II.

I set my R5 to back focus and haven't changed it. Using CCC, I can change shooting modes, drive mode, focus mode, focus point, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. from the app.

Try it, you'll like it.

I was wrong about changing the mode using the app - I have to change it at the camera (found that out last night while playing with it). I also found out that continuous shutter doesn't work using the app.

I could use continuous shutter with the old Canon remote timer (TC-80N3) with my old 40D and 7D on a tripod to take hummingbird shots and my dog catching a Frisbee in mid-air.

I use the app for taking landscape photos while using the Lee Big Stopper filter these days. It comes in handy for group shots if I am in the same group picture as well.
