I'm a major fan and user of Affinity Photo. I'm curious to hear the thoughts from those who have upgraded to Affinity Photo 2. Is it a value?

As you, I too am a fan and user of Affinity Photo, and in my humble opinion AP 2 is well worth the upgrade.

Yes, improved masking is valuable. They also corrected a major error in raw file handling; you now have to option to move from the Develop module to the Photo module without being forced to trash your work done in the Develop module.

Yes - a major error identified - but as such should have been corrected for free!
In my opinion Serif have lost their way by seeking xs profit. They had a great product with PhotoPlus v7 and v8 and by injecting IA into a v9 or v10 would have been VERY popular. I have Affinity v1 - which, so far as it goes, is excellent - but it is not Photoshop! I will not upgrade to Affinity 2 without a huge v1 user discount. V2 should have been v1.

Unlike most other software companies, Serif hasn't asked for money in years. While I don't disagree that the updates aren't major, Serif needs funds to continue development and the nominal upgrade charge was well worth it in my opinion.

I have version 1 and I do not plan to update soon. In my case I do not have a complicated workflow and Version 1 is all I need. Affinity Photo has served me well for my needs. I use their dehaze feature often to add more structure and improve the sky.
I rarely use masks, I know I should use them more often but I have not dedicated enough time to learn them.

Today I am using Affinity Photo more than Photoshop.

Camerapapi, Being one who paid (majorly) for the first version of Photoshop, and then the funds for every upgrade, I found myself forced to switch. I was looking at Affinity Photo for a few years before switching, and I now reside in Affinity Photo totally, and happy about it.

It appears that there would be a good reason to upgrade to Affinity 2. So here's my concernable question. Did any of you find a conflict with another other software on your system, to include your operating system. Scream at me if you wish, but I'm still using iMac 10.13.6. Previous OPs have been replaced many times. But even in the Apple world, upgrades can ... and often does mean you lose a piece of hardware. So far, a printer, a scanner, and a wacom. Hence, why I stay at 10.13.6. So, has anyone experienced a conflict with (a) your current OP, and (b) what Affinity 2.0 required?

I thank you in advance.
Bill

You need a min of Mac OS 10.15, so your operating system won't work for Affinity Photo 2. Click on Tech Spec via this link:

I upgraded to v.2 but have yet to find any real difference from v.1.

This seems to be the general user opinion. Perhaps v2 is aimed at pro users rather than the majority - BUT many software providers have discovered the way to bye-pass their promises of free upgrades by designating bug fixing as new versions.

Version 2.0 may have resolved some bugs but it appears that it may have introduced one that causes the program to crash under certain circumstances. It is not hardware related and the specs for my laptop are higher end and have had no issues running any of the more demanding photo processing software. This "bug" seems to be triggered when using the latest version of Nik Collection 6.0. At least both of the times Affinity crashed it was when I tried to apply a Nik filter. I never experienced a crash using Affinity Photo 1.0 so it seems to be a "new" issue. I do agree with those who report that they have not found anything actually new in 2.0. I am sure that there are new features but they clearly are more obscure than the hype would have you believe. Still, I do appreciate the fact that Affinity (Serif) has not gone over to the dark side by switching over to a subscription model.

The raw converter is much better in 2.0 and masks are automatically applied with adjustments. You can brush out any unwanted areas with a black brush.
