I do a good deal of traveling and take a good deal of photos for my artwork. A problem that I experience is that sometimes it's just impossible to remember precisely where the photo was taken and as I do architectural subjects that's a real inconvenience. I use my Olympus camera that's about 6-years old and I was considering a new Olympus camera since I have some very effective lenses for my purposes. But...Olympus doesn't seem to offer any camera that would permit me to use the lenses I have AND give metadata of a photo's location. Is there an easy method of addressing this issue that I'm not aware of other than taking cumbersome notes or also using my iPhone constantly to also photo a spot that WOULD log the location? Thanks for any help that might address this without my having to settle for a new camera that would be unnecessarily costly and not give me the use of my Olympus lenses.

I try to take a quick photo with my iphone when I am taking photos with my (non-GPS) camera. Often, that is not possible, and I have to try to figure out what my images show. In order to identify the images once I am home, I have found that, if my photo is of a well-known (and sometimes not-very-well-known) building or area is to put the photo into Google Images. I often get a number of images of the same place, with the name of the building or area on some of the photos that are displayed. I have been able to identify any images this way. It's a little time-consuming, but I think it's worth while.

When I travel I'll take a photo of the Welcome To sign you see on entering a new state. I will somehow take a photo of a town or city sign so I know where a group of photos were taken. I have old technology cameras that don't have GPS; I don't have a smart phone; but i know where most of my important photos were taken.

When arriving or just before departing a site, shoot a few seconds of video of the site speaking the info to the camera mic.

Use MP4 video cuz it involves very little storage and any PC can play it back.

It really is hard to imagine anything easier, cheaper or more effective than this.

I'm still not understanding. Either the camera has GPS or not. If not, does Olympus have another piece of equipment to add this capability to your current model?. . .

For your first question: It is not quite a yes or no case. Leica M11 does not have GPS built in, but connects by bluetooth to a nearby iPhone to acquire the GPS location. It can do a few more tricks thru this bluetooth connection, too. I believe the Leica M10 gains GPS function when used with the supplemental electronic viewfinder, the Visoflex 020 attachment. Since this is the same electronic viewfinder as used on an Epson camera, there may be other cameras that add GPS through add-ons.

I don’t know if that leads into your second question, but it is ‘another piece of equipment that adds this capability’.

I do not know what other brands or models might currently use this (or similar) technology—but since it is out there, perhaps there will be more use of this in the future.

I just take an additional photo of a nearby sign or recognizable landmark. A macro shot of a map, sometimes with a pencil set on it pointing to the town I’m in, works, too.

Friends have done this for years when shooting slides for travelogs. When they return they may add slides of their map, animating their progression by drawing in their daily progress. Quite crude compared to what can be done digitally.

When I photograph in an art museum, or a formal garden, often there is nearby sign telling me all about the painting, or flower. Usually far more details than I want to take notes on.

I do not need high quality on these pics. Anything readable will do. In the past I would shoot a B&W shot on film with my second camera, and never make a print. I could read the info from the negative. The problem was synching the images from the two rolls of film. Digital solved that.

With my first digital camera. I quickly reset it to jpg mode, lowest resolution, highest compression and get a shot of the sign. The camera numbers it sequentially, so it gives me caption information stored next to my subject. Now that memory cards are cheaper, and have higher capacity, I don’t bother changing the settings anymore.

Currently I’m doing a lot of pictures of people making presentations. I may not catch their name, but

As I indicated earlier it helps to read the manual. On Page 138 of the EM1 MkIII manual it discusses adding audio to a picture. I know my PenF does this too. The audio is added in camera but after the photo is taken. It is probably best recorded in a photo used just for location notes.

Olympus cameras are full of great technology.
