I agree you can't miss along the scenic east coast, from Maine to Florida. I've hit some spots and plan to visit many more. For tastes of Maine, Cape Cod, Virginia, S. We have appreciated the photographical views of Cape Ann MA and vicinity: Gloucester, Manchester, Rockport, Salem, etc. We have usually gone off season: Mid to Late September. Very busy from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

There are a lot of waterfalls in the UP of Michigan and northern Wisconsin. Big springs park and the Macanicnic bridge are great. I also second the circle tour.

I'd suggest Sunset Beach, in southern North Carolina. You get the ocean beach with a pier, generally not too crowded before the season, and nearby is the already suggested Huntington Beach, Vereen Memorial Gardens on the intracoastal waterway, and Green Swamp Preserve, a 15,000 plus acre swamp belonging to the Nature Conservancy. And then there's the Calabash Creamery to satisfy your sweet tooth; my favorite: bourbon pecan.

Tour the Great Lakes. You will see things you never dreamed of. Life around the lakes is slower than most and fits the lifestyle of retired folks. Great places to live, great places to visit. Visit now and have it all to your self.

If you loved the Oregon coast you have got to see the northern Washington coast along Olympic Natl Park beaches. As far as east coast the road to Key West has many good photo ops.

I plan to go out to Montauk Light House on the northern end of Long Island in the near future. There should be some good values on a room prior to Memorial Day.

Also, consider traveling down the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Great beaches, lighthouses, etc. One of my favorite places to visit. To me anyway, when standing near the water and watching the sea oats blowing, you know exactly where you are. I guess it is due to the constant prevailing wind off the ocean, but I know of no other place that has a signature as readily recognizable. The wind is why the Wright Brothers chose this location for their first airplane flights. You can visit their museum near Kill Devil Hills. Then head on south to Ocracoke, the small village where Blackbeard the Pirate was hanged by the British. You can take a nice ferry ride of a couple of hours from Ocracoke over to the NC mainland.

Excellent suggestion. Best in the fall, however. It's spectacular in a good year.
