I created a jpg in photoshop while learning about rgb colors, saved it as a jpg file. Then opened again, went to camera raw and ??? whats going on here? Camera raw shows entirely different colors!

Can you do a screenshot of what you get in Camera Raw?

This camera raw image. The yellow and green white stripes are red in camera raw. It's seems to repeatable. I download the image from my post, and it is affected the same way. I created other images (in photoshop, select the color r-255, g-0, b-0 - draw a strip with paint brush. the 255,255,0 and another stripe. 255, 128,255 again. 0,255,0
etc. save as a jpg. reload and move to camera raw

Don't know why, but the colors have been shifted. The initial image histogram shows that it's only red, green, blue and combinations. The other one shows that there are several other hues in there. Of course you can see that by eye but the histogram might give some clues to someone.

Loaded the jpg into Photoshop and applied the ACR filter. Could not reproduce your result.

Perhaps you could be more specific about the steps you took (and operating system). I can't figure out how you "moved a JPEG to Camera Raw". I created a similar image and saved it as a Jpeg. When I open it, it bypasses Camera Raw and opens in PS because it's a Jpeg.

In Photoshop you can go to camera raw with filters/Camera Raw even for jpg.

Your description of the creation of the image indicates that there can be no actual "camera raw". Youve created a frankenstein and it failed to result in a normal human. No sooprize there.

Wondering what would happen if you print the jpeg and then copy the print with a camera to get a camera raw.

Yes, I did exactly that and did not get his result. Colors were exactly the same.

I suspect there is something in the workflow you used that is causing the problem you see.
You might try saving the JPEG you created in Photoshop as a TIFF and see if that makes a difference.
If the TIFF looks fine then you have useable output (Both JPEG & TIFF) why go back to camera raw?

Part of any RAW converter is the Demosaicing of the RAW file, since JPEGs are already past that in the workflow chain, why do you want to go back to a raw converter?
Is there something you are trying to accomplish, or is this merely a 'curiosity' ??

I’m interested in what exactly your purpose is. What are you trying to achieve?

why are you trying to open a JPEG using camera raw? Does the name “camera raw” imply anything about the intended image format for camera raw?

ACR will allow editing of a jpg as well as raw data. Lots of people use it. Lightroom uses it to edit whatever format you can throw into the catalog. In spite of the name, it is not limited to raw data.

Thanks. I use LR frequently for jpegs but it’s a very different interface when opening ACR from photoshop. I have never tried to open a JPEG from PS using ACR or using ACR directly to open a JPEG.

LR imposes it's own UI on ACR, but it's the same engine.

I think what you are seeing is the highlight clipping warning. Click the box above the right end of the histogram and the red will go away.
