Thanks Paul for starting this section.

This image was taken in Newport Beach at a place called the 'Wedge". . . . This wave lifted the bodyboarder up, flipped him over leaving his looking kinda silly on the beach.

There was not a lot of different colors in the original image, but the B&W version added a little more drama.

Any constructive critique is certainly welcome.

Nice shot, of course, but I'd like to know how you got the b/w conversion.

The basic editing/cropping was done in LR, i.e. lightly pulled the highlights, whites and blacks down and pushed the shadows up. Then cropped before editing in PS. In PS, I did the B&W conversion using the B&W adjustment layer. Darkened the blue but left all the other colors alone. Using curve adjustment layers, I did some minor dodging and burning to increase contrast. And finally I removed some minor fringing that creeped into the edit. As a final step, I output the image to a jpg using Greg Benz Web Sharp Pro.

I only used PS for the B&W conversion, no other application or plug-ins.

Hope this answered your question. If not, PM me and I'll try to be more specific.

Mike

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I haven't been contributing much lately (other family priorities) but I couldn't resist this section.

Wouln't it have been interesting to see his expression after he came back up? Fortunately, only his pride was hurt.

Magnificent shot!! I’ll bet that hurts, though!

Thanks for your nice comment. Fortunately, the only thing that appeared to be hurt was his pride. He picked himself up, gathered his board and went right back out.
