Two Good Movies

I posted about the 2011 film "The Thing" a couple of days ago. I watched it last night, and it was very entertaining. For some reason, it was called a prequel, but it seems mor like a remake. Despite the fact that it got bad reviews, I found it entertaining. Were there flaws? Of course! It's a movie! Years ago, someone was discussing movies about aliens, and he said there is one universal flaw: the aliens themselves. He said that if aliens are going to build and operate a spacecraft, they need something like hands and fingers. Giant claws would not be convenient for construction or operation.

An even better film is "Murder Mystery 2," starring Jennifer Anniston and Adam Sandler. I enjoyed the original one, so I was looking forward to the sequel, and it didn't disappoint. It looks like no expense was spared in the production, and there are lots of laughs, some of them subtle. I'm going to rewatch the original one.

Are they on Netflix? I never can seem to find anything good there (well, maybe once in a while).

You're welcome. It's refreshing to watch enjoyable movies, rather than the junk that's usually offered.

We plan to buy it.
The first is that good...

I can rent it online for $14.99! I don't think I will. I hate to see so many rentals being offered when I'm paying so much for TV every month.

Jerry et al!

John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982) is the remake of the original "The Thing" (1951) movie that I saw many times on Channel 11's "Million Dollar Movie" broadcast here in the metro NYC area back in the days when I was a teen. This original version had James Arness (of Gunsmoke fame) starring as the monster.

The 2011 movie is a prequel as it tells the story of what happened to the members of the Norwegian Antarctic
team and the two remaining members in their helicopter as they try chasing down the escaping husky dog. It's this dog that allows the Thing to devastate the American team as we view the opening scene in the 1982 remake. There's also a "Behind the scenes" video floating around YouTube that shows the special effects.

Be well! Happy Easter and Passover! Remember B&H and Adorama are currently closed due to the holiday.

Thanks for all that. I'll look for the other versions of that. I remember the 1951 version with James Arness. You probably know that Michael Landon played the werewolf in "I was a Teenage Werewolf," 1957.

Was the Million Dollar Movie the one that played the same movie continuously for a day? Was "Tara's Theme" their music? One of those movie channels played that as their intro and outro music.

Yes, it was the Million Dollar Movie. You could start it, leave it, and pick it up where you left off. Very convenient.
