This is an odd one - and somewhat disturbing. I did my son's taxes, and sent them in. Rejected! The Fed people didn't like the AGI from last year. The tax software entered the amount it knew from last year, and it was the same as on the printed form. I kept sending it, and it kept getting rejected. After a few hours and over half a dozen tries, it was accepted. I've never experienced that before.

It's the federal government. What do you expect.
Did he have some income that is not on any forms?
Me neither.
We've been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years I believe.
Federal (efile) & State (paper file). Never a rejection on either.

They never reject me either but a couple of times they sent me letter later saying that I owe them money due to something wrong with my return.
Sometimes no decimal point or no zeros added could cause rejection
A few years back, we got a letter from the IRS stating that we overpaid $1,800+ and they sent us a check. We had our personal taxes prepared by the firm that does our corporate accounting so it was odd that we would have overpaid.
About six months later, we got a letter from the IRS stating that there was an error and we had to return the $1,800+ INCLUDING interest penalties. I contacted the IRS and told them that this was their error, not mine and I would return the face amount of the check without paying a penalty and interest to which they agreed after a heated conversation.
Never forget that this administration wants an additional 80,000+ IRS agents to assist us with our taxes.

That's almost funny.
Yes, the Republicans turned down the Democratic request for more agents, agents who would have looked for cheating among the wealthiest Americans. When I was working, a friend used to say, "It's not worth it for us to cheat on our taxes because there's so little money involved. What are you going to save, $20?" When your income is measured in the millions, then you can find ways to hide money.
Some people don't like facts.

I'm sure you have read by now that 80,000 agents isn't true.

Right. They were including all the agents working for the IRS. It's easy to confuse people by throwing numbers around.

The vast majority of audits and kickbacks by the IRS are because tax form income doesn’t equal income reported to the IRS. The rest are primarily random and when deductions are excessive compared to income group algorithms. The IRS would never target! 🥴
Lies, damned lies, statistics.
