How heavy is this and what is the length? Is it hard to carry around for awhile? Using a leather strap

Probably everything you need to know, including size and weight, is covered in this review: https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/80-400mm.htm

I carried one for years and shot hand-held. Loved the lens until the Z9 and the 100-400S lens. Now I carry that all aver the place. Sold my 80-400.

In your research, don't forget there are 2 generations of 80-400.

The first generation is screw drive autofocus.
Second generation has internal motors (AF-S)

And version 1 is a dog. Version 2 is excellent performer, but big, heavy and expensive. If you want size and weight specs, no need to suffer Ken Rockwell. Any online camera store will show those specs.

As for leather camera strap - seriously? The last time I saw/used a leather strap was probably around 1965.

Personally I have never liked the images I got with either version I or II of this lens.
I got much better images from the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 lens.
I always used a metal handle attached to the tripod foot, or cradled it with two hands if necessary.
