I think this one, if it is the right one is only $319.00 from B&H shipping included.
I no longer have a computer, just my laptop.

Sorry, it's late and my mind seems to be a bit foggy. I'm a Nikon shooter who has just gotten a new camera D 800 because my regular one is in for repair and I have no idea when I'm going to get it back. Found a refurb for a great buy. At least I have a camera and tomorrow I'm going to try to start learning it.

Anyone who thinks boats are money pits just isn't taking pictures. ;>)

Boats, aircraft and photo equipment are all hobbies that will easily drain any wallet. You have a fine camera and the only suggestion I recommend to you is to get a good external drive for storage of those photos since your laptop harddrive will get pretty full in no time flat with RAW files. They tend to be huge from that camera. Also wait till you do video editting. I use 2 external 2Terabyte drives for just video work and edit on the 2 internal 500 Gig SSD drives for speed. I really need to build a RADE system soon for safety of my files.
You'll love that ASUS monitor by the way.

Oh Dear! I don't even want to go there. I am currrently backing up on 2 external drives. I figure agter my last experience of loading up the hard drive on my computer that I will just use the 2 external drives and then switch them about each year. I would like to find a good i cloud solution but that's out there after I solve my current problems. At least when I travel with my laptop, I can take just one external. That's one reason I want a larger monitor that will be the same as my laptop so I don't have to edit twice. I think I must be making this more complicated than it needs to be.

Well with the addition of the added USB3.0 ports on that monitor, it should elliminate a lot of cabling to your laptop. The Moniltor connects all of the USB ports with just 1 USB3.0 connection. It isn't recommended to use the DVI and HDMI inputs togeather as different inputs on this monitor though. I use the DVI and the DISPLAY PORT inputs when using the duel display option. It's in the fine print of the manual. And you'll love the fact that this monitor comes with a complete set of connector cables for all inputs.

I agree that it's a nice monitor option - good suggestion.

-But-

For what it's worth....

Present day VGA supports millions of colors, it hasn't been limited to 256 colors since around 1990

It's RAID not RADE - Redundant Array of Independent Disks.

The amount of memory your video card has available has no impact on the number of colors your monitor will display. Again, this was once the case back when VGA was limited to 256 colors so it's a true statement if you have an incredibly old video card.

I currently have the PA246Q, which is the predecessor to the PA248Q. Stonkingly good monitor without breaking the bank! :-)

I just run a cable from my laptop to my TV and edit there, works like a charm (32 and 46 inch flatscreen)

Just curious, if you display the same photo on your laptop and the TV do the colors match? If they don't, which one is closer to the true color of the image? Not even dealing with color, some displays show all images as darker or lighter than they really are so you fix exposure and get unpredictable results when you print... My laptop is poor when it comes to color and exposure, 1 TV I tried is fairly good, another TV is terrible...

The colors from laptop (Dell Alien) to Samsung 46 flat screen to Samsung 32 are so close to each other as to be indistinguishable to my eyes.
As for rpints I generally print 8X12, 11X16 or 16X20 and the prints are of equal quality ( favorite printer Adorama, I have them printed as sent).
Hope this was of some help.

There's also a bargain basement version called the PA-238Q that has the same attributes but no USB ports on it. It goes for about $50 to $100 or so less and has the same 5 year warranty. Just saying....if the bank account is stretched. And the stand on all the Pro Art series monitors is the best one I've seen on any monitor. Solid and well made. And B&H is selling the PA-248Q for the same price I paid after a $20 rebate so you're getting a fair price quote too.

Thanks! I gave up because the guy who works on our computers doesn't think he can get a monitor and my laptop to match. I'm sad because it's so challenging for me to edit pics on a 17" screen after using a 24" monitor for so long.

Sounds to me like you need to find a new computer "GEEK" that actually knows what he's doing. And here I thought that Missouri was the "show me state". LOL. Maybe you should try going to a real photo shop near you and ask them for some help or maybe a community college near you that teaches photography courses.

Don't be sad, just another one of life's struggles
