I picked up this lens last fall and am really pleased and agree with your assessment. My first real outing with it was at La Jolla cover last December spending several hours with the local brown pelicans and Brandt's cormorants using my Sony A1 with this lens and a 2x converter. It was a joy using compared to the Sony 600 or 400 primes or the 200-600 or 100-400. As a light weight alternative you can hold it for hours. Even with the 2x I got some amazingly sharp images. Nice Egret by the way. I still encourage you to try out Zebras for exposure but obviously your method for determining exposure seems to be working out just fine. Have a great day!

Bill,
As a long-time Nikon shooter, how would you compare it with the Nikon 80-200mm f 2.8 lenses you have used?

Great Egret mating posture, Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
Sony a9, Sony 70-200 2.8 GM OSS II, @ 200mm 2.8, 1/1600 sec. iso 100, hand held, manual exposure off green tree, Zone focus, tracking automatically on within the Zone Focus brackets
PS. The Sony 70-200 2.8 GM OSS II is probably the sharpest zoom I have ever used, as sharp as any of my primes, it is lite and just an amazing lens, if you ever have the opportunity to buy it, do not hesitate

Great capture, Bill, in all his glory 🤍🤍🎯🤍🤍
