Those are some amazing shots. What a great experience, even getting actually touch a whale. Thanks for sharing the experience.
Thanks Greg! It was a very great experience. The whales were all over the place. The mothers even brought their calves up to see us. Incredible! I am thing of making a follow up post. I will try not to be boring. I even got some pics of nesting Osprey. I never saw one before. Those I am sure will end up in the bird section.

Is there any smell that you are familiar with that would remind you of whale snot?🤓 (Since I don’t anticipate the experience, I’m just wondering what it might smell like.)

Actually, the whales came to us. Back on February 25, we left for Guerrero Negro, Mexico, which is on the Baha peninsula in Mexico. We spent about weeks down there on a whale watching tour. Our stay involved living in thin, plywood Quonset huts (some guests preferred to stay in tents) which were actually quite comfortable despite the cool temperatures that averaged about 57f during the day (about -100c for our metric friends).

I have to tell you... It was an absolutely amazing experience! Even though we were looking forward to the trip for several months, Neither my wife nor myself expected such intensity and excitement.

We stayed right on the edge of a vast lagoon which is the mating and birthing place of the Grey Whale. These are baleen whales which grow to about 49 feet in length and can weigh up to about 44 tons ( I have no idea what the metric equivalent is). The also have a heart shaped, 2 nostril blow hole which I understand to be rather unique amongst whales.

We went out twice a day deep into the lagoon and had at it with the whales. They would come right up to our boats and even allow us to pet them. Some people actually kissed them. Most of us were just as happy photographing and filming them.

So, with that being said, Enjoy! I will probably add a couple of more posts of our trip. I will try not to bore you.

Not only was it snot, they at times created a deep, hollow sound which was very interesting in itself. Now, back to the snot issue. It seemed to be a mix of water and vapor. It was probably all vapor until it hit the atmosphere. There did not seem to be much of an odor per-say; ( I just asked my wife. She said there was no odor)however; my camera was rather close to one of the snottings and there was a long, hanging drip starting at the bottom of my lens. Kind of like a child whose nose needs a good wiping because it is just hanging there. I am trying to put together another series where I do have a photo of another boat near us where a lady on that vessel took a direct hit. You had to be there. It was great!

Thank you, Sylvia! Julie went to Yellowstone park with her girlfriends last summer ( I was stuck having to work) and she was mesmerized by all that she saw, but she said that was pale compared to the whale watching experience.
