Do you know what you have when you pitch your banjo into the dumpster and it lands on some bagpipes?

Perfect pitch.
Many years ago, I was at one of our huge electronic trade shows.
There was a vendor from Scotland. They had a piper in full regalia, kilt an all, playing in front of their booth.
Just as I approached, he was taking a break.
Being an engineering trade show, I introduced myself and the conversation eventually went into some small talk.

When I queried him about bagpipe calibration, he gave me this weird look.
I jokingly said something to the effect of:

So, to Calibrate for Middle ā€˜Cā€™, you feed a 15 lb. Tabby Cat two 6 oz. cans of Mackerel.
Wait 30 minutes.
With your right foot, apply 0.1cwt of consistent pressure to the mid-section of the cat.
Tune for resonance and/or aroma.

He got all indignant & $hit!!

No sense of humor at all.

I probably missed on the first because until I looked it up I had no idea what a "mix tape" was. Now that I know, I still don't see anything funny about it. But I suspect it's just me. I have never found anything funny about people like Lucille Ball, Jacky Gleason, Sienfeld (if that's the way it's spelled), the 3 Stoges, -- you get the idea. And I can't blame it on genes, because close members of my family watch such "stuff." A sister even watches "Survivor," although that's not supposed to be funny, while "reality" it most definitely isn't. It may in fact be funny, but I'll never know. The point is, I've never been able to equate the pathetic, the ridiculous, or the trite to funny. I'm not sure that I can even explain what I find funny. I can be reading a book and come onto a sentence which actually arouses laughter. When I (rarely) show the passage to others they quite often don't get it. So once again, I am proven to be really strange. Thank some deity somewhere. Don't let this detract from your (generic usage) own enjoyment. Cheers.

Maybe look up some Far Side funnies or some older Bob Newhart stuff. I never cared for the slapstick stuff either. If you have to work too hard at being funny, it falls flat.

Yes, "mix tape" is an old term, one that never involved me.

I sympathize with your lack of laughing at those comedies. I love comedies of almost all types. Try "The IT Crowd," still on Netflix. It's about computer people working for a big corporation in England. Very funny.

I'm right with you on the unfunny comedians. AND laugh tracks! Immediate turn-off! (Sometimes literally!) My humor is more the Marx brothers ā€“ except Karl. He was a way too serious! Oh, and the skits Abbott and Costello did at the end of the TV show. Who's On First, Picking Up the Peke, etc.

I could never understand why TV uses laugh tracks. If something is funny, I'll laugh. Why would I want to hear other people laughing?

They do it because it works...almost everyone is open to suggestion.

It doesn't matter the issue or subject matter....

Repeat it enough...folks will buy into it.

If you were told that there was an invisible sky king who listens and watches everything you do...
You would not believe it.

But if they told you that when you were young...over and over again...from familiar and powerful people in your life...
Eventually...you give in.

After you accept the suggestion...odds are you will resist giving it up...even if you know it's not right.
This is known as well by those who do the suggesting...the hook once set...is difficult to remove.

I find that I very seldom laugh at TV comedies. Of course, I seldom watch TV comedies. Maybe I just need more practice, Or I have to lower my standards.
