I crossed that bridge towing a 25 foot travel trailer, it was quite an experience ,my wife was scared to death.

Is there a ferry available for those with acrophobia?

Nice images but not my favorite "bridge", that would be the 4.1 mile structure across the Columbia River at Astoria, OR...at one point it is high enough so ocean freighters can transit to moor and offload about 50 miles upriver. Will admit it is spooky being on that bridge at night, knowing what is below.

Nice shots. But talk about scary, the guard rails for the roadway across the bridge look only about 3 feet high. Yet in its entire history only one car has accidentally gone over the side in a windstorm.

Great pictures of a great bridge. For a sight to behold, try staying at the state park on the northern end of the bridge and photograph it as the sun goes down and the lights on the bridge come on.

I have driven over it twice. Both times I crossed early in the morning before the winds picked up too much. Even then, it was not a lot of fun pulling a camper trailer.

True only Leslie Pluhar went off the bridge accidentally. There was however, another vehicle that went off intentionally.

"According to Mike Fornes, author of "Mackinac Bridge: A 50-Year Chronicle," only two occupied vehicles have fallen off the Mackinac Bridge. Besides Pluhar, a 1996 Ford Bronco driven by Richard Alan Daraban fell off the bridge in 1997. State police later determined Daraban had driven off the bridge deliberately."

Not a suicide attempt that one could intervene and possible stopped easily.

Decent day yesterday, decided to run up to the UP (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan. At the tip of the mitten one has to cross the 5 mile wide, Straits of Mackinac. In 1957 the 26,372 foot Mackinac Bridge opened connecting the upper and lower peninsulas. The bridge is the worlds 27th- longest main span and the longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the Western Hemisphere.

Thanks.

I won’t call it scary, but my butt left “bite marks” in the seat of my ‘83 Yamaha Venture.😎
