Why does it have to be either / or?
Isn't it about time to accept that under certain circumstances one tool is more useful for the user than the other. The blades on my favorite German utility knives are every bit as sharp (at least on first use) as a surgeon's scalpel - that doesn't make them interchangeable.

If you are a camera buff you understand the things a camera can do that a phone cannot. If you are the average person that likes to take pictures, you think phone.
There are a lot more folks who care about the quality of their camera photos, than that small portion of the population that care about their camera's abilities.
If they put a view finder and tripod mount and a serious photographer's app on a phone, they would capture an even larger market share.

I bought an adapter to mount my camera to my telescope. Sure enough they had a phone/telescope mounting fixture.

They did a survey five or six years ago where they asked a group of 13 and 14 year old girls about their cell phone usage. Not sure if this what they expected, but the most common use that the girls mentioned was taking pictures, and when asked about this, most replied that how else were they going to share pictures with their friends. Using their phones to actually make telephone calls, wasn't all that important to them. It was pictures and texting.

Do phone prints and camera prints essentially look the same at typical print sizes, 4×6, 8×10 etc.? If one doesn't print their images and only looks at them on some sort of device, isn't a phone camera good enough?
