I was driving along 18th Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. The bright red color and all the chrome caught my eyes. I couldn't believe what a beauty this was and grabbed some photos. Please enjoy but don't drool. The keyboard gets messy!

Looks like a kit car? Any hint of what it is?

This was a real car supposedly built by the Zimmer Motor Cars Corp. during the 1980’s. It is called a Zimmer Golden Spirit. I don’t believe it was a kit car and they sold for $175,000 each. Sadly, the company became bankrupt in 1988.

Kinda reminds me of a late sixties Mustang fastback from the windshield back.

Thanks! At $175k, low production was the norm….

Cool car. We used to call that a "Pimpmobile" back in the 60s

They've been around for awhile. I've seen some over the years, but they're really not my cup of tea. They built them (the older ones anyway) on Continental frames and then, if you can believe it using Fieros.
I never had an interest or paid any attention to them until I saw this one. I guess they've been making them all along in limited quantities as you can see in these wikipedia paragraphs. This stuck out because from the windshield back, the crease in the door and fender, the rear window, the rear fender ...they all look like this example of a 2010 Mustang that I included for reference and according to this article they did use these Mustangs for their Zimmers. With Liberace gone, I don't think there's much call for them anymore. They depreciate faster than a cement filled 55 gal drum dumped into the ocean. Funny thing is I'll bet driving it would be a hoot.

I can see why they went bankrupt. The Zimmer cars I’ve seen were trying to look like a classic roadster from the 30s but just couldn’t pull it off. This one looks like it was based on a Mustang, judging by the roof lines.

A not so affectionally nicknamed vehicle referred to by most car guys as a "Pimpmobile.

I can’t agree more. The biggest problem was the cost. I can’t see myself buying one or even a Maybach. The car may turn heads but my wallet stays closed. The car caught my eye because of the color and the chrome. She had great lines and was subsequently mimicked. I’m happy with my Oldsmobile Delta 88 four door with the front bench seats.
