Remember, cars from New Zealand and Australia are basically the same but they DO use different emblems. If you compare Paul's original photo to the two photos that I included I think it's pretty obvious that the silhouettes of the cars are identical. The bumper, the wheel well opening, the windshield and side windows, the center rise in the hood, the rear view mirror, the shape of the front fender, the door handle, everything...IDENTICAL. The only difference is that the bottom crease has chrome and the emblem is different. Paul's photo is a sedan.

Yes, you're correct in that is is a sedan.
I am thinking more on the side of Impala now, and not Ford so much. But there is still the debate.

Hi team,

I took this photo recently (on 11-Dec-2022) of a customised car driving by me in a little town called Gore, in Southland, New Zealand. I usually take more notice of the car's make and model when I shot pics of them, but in this case I failed to do that. So I think it might be a Ford Fairlane, 1966-1968 or so, but I am not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

You'll note that it is right-hand drive, being a car in New Zealand and all, although we do have a few imported left-hand drive cars about here in NZ as well.

Oh! And the car's wheels are Foose Wheels. in case you're interested in that little detail.

Comments on the photo itself are also welcome.

Hi team, br br I took this photo recently (on 11-... (show quote)

The sheet metal is definitely from a 1964 full-sized Chevy.
GM cars built and sold in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. frequently had different badges, markings, colors, even interiors than cars made/sold in America.
A friend, special ordered and received a new 1970s Impala painted in an Oldsmobile color.
At one time you could special order almost anything if you had the $$$.
Best Wishes,

The black car is a 1964 Impala. My sister had one. A favorite for Low Riders.

Well, it may be a Kiwi Ford as some are positing but it's definitely an American Chevy. Maybe crossing the equator does something to morph them.

It's a Ford and from what I find on Google the op's id as a Fairline is correct.
The V8 emblem looks like a Ford & chrome the trim is below the "point" of the fender and closer to the wheel well , Chevy's the V8 is flanked by flags!! the trim is at the point of the fender.

"Impala" is a Chevrolet Marque. The side view looks like that of the Chevrolet Impala. The V8 badge can be an after market modification.

I would hold back on the ID until we can check out the molding on the rear lenses.

Would you have a shot of the back end of the vehicle? The configuration would provide a more definitive identification. Also, the forward lamps on the Fairlane were stacked lamps with High beam over Low beam. Impala's were side by side, as suggested by the leading edges in the photo.

I think he posted the wrong photo. Not only is it a Chevy but it's not right hand drive. The driver is clearly sitting on the left side of the car.

A cheap 4 door post 64 Cheney, most likely a 6 cylinder by the badges , V8 s had flags . NOT a Ford by any stretch of the imagination .

The identity of the car in question in the first picture is the one that Paul was inquiring about. The black '64 Impala and the white '64 Impala and the light green '64 Belair that Jerry G sent in were all examples of 1964 Chevrolets. It's pretty safe to say that if you compare the pics of the car that Paul is inquiring about to the other three, it is indeed a 1964 Chevrolet Belair.
