PayPal Scam

Wow I just got a PayPal scam that looked legit. From PayPal LLC and it looked just like it was from PayPal. Said I had a 369.00 charge and to call if it didn't look right. I called and they tried to get me on TeamViewer which would have gave them access to my computer. I told them I wasn't comfortable with that and they hung up. Logged on to my PayPal account and there was no charge of 369.00 on it. I never seen a website that look so authentic. I sent the info over to PayPal. Beware

You really have to be vigilant with the scammers. They stay up late trying to figure a way to steal from you. Too bad we can't do something about it.

Thanks for heads up. I received the same email. Since I rarely use PayPal I figured it was a scam, I logged into my account to check it out. As expected, there was nothing there. While I was there, I took the opportunity to remove all but one of the credit cards I had on file as a precaution. And there's a further protection. That card has expired!!

I check my accounts regularly. They're set up, so I get notifications of any activity. I've gotten similar emails and texts, would you never call or open one of those links.
If in doubt, I'll call the company with a number I know is legit to inquire.
Amazing how many of these scams and others are out there!

It’s a good idea to never use the phone number, email address or text number provided in the message you were sent to check out these situations. The best thing to do is to go to the web address that you regularly use, find the company’s contact info and contact them. That way you are sure you are getting the real company people.

The one I get regularly is for an iPad at over $900.

Years ago I started checking my account at the site if a message about a purchase I don't remember making shows up.

My latest was a repeating charge for $86.61 on my Citibank/Costco card. Under several different names/phone numbers for the payee. A total of 19 over a bit more than a year on my old card (I got a new card & number in Dec. to stop the charges) Several of them have been refunded, and I am waiting for older statements to be mailed from the bank, so I can check all entries (one of those payees did have one charge for a different amount). This has been on going for a few months now
Citibank got through to one of the phone numbers, and they said it was for an "Unlimited Online Reading Club". I called several of the phone numbers and get the same recorded greeting message with the same skip on the same word and then the same voice when it goes to a human who always says they are a "customer service" company who work for numerous clients.
After I talked to one they refunded 3 months worth of charges, Citibank's call got some more refunded. Now for those statements. I have been waiting a couple of weeks - told delayed by the holidays, a lot of people getting vacation time so low priority jobs are delayed. If I don't get those transcripts in a couple of days, I will be on the phone with Citibank again.
I am now paying for all online orders with either my direct bank credit card or debit card on an order by order basis. Now if I can get my wife to do that also, I will save a hundred a year or so in fees on all those "members credit cards" from various merchants.

Scammers are everywhere. Yesterday I had an email pop up confirming an airline ticket for a lesser known airline. Instead of checking out that site I went directly to my charge card. That was there along with another airline ticket for over $1500. That one went through so now I have to fill out a fraud claim, the other one did not go through. My charge card is usually pretty good about pending things until they verify them so I am not sure how that one got through and one did not. Not sure why I got an email on the first airline that I have never used before. So now I have changed several passwords.

Maybe we need to go to the system one of the old kingdoms in India used and also parts of China.
If you got caught stealing or cheating someone, you basically became a slave of the government and put to work. Everything you made went to repay your victims, with interest. Once that was paid off, your earnings went to support your family and pay for the prison and guards.
If you killed someone then that lasted for life as what you earned went to support your victim's family at the level he had supported them first, before anything left over went to your family.

Under that system your own family became government agents keeping an eye on you because if you got away with anything and then caught they suffered first.

The sad fact is that Police agencies can't be bothered with prosecuting unless it's a large sum of money. With a slam dunk for a successful conviction they just ignore any complaints. It seems the "petty" crimes can sometimes be the most annoying. I use a "burner" credit card that I use for companies I've never done business with before. It makes it easier to dispute and cxl the card.

Must be catching, I get the same thing regarding my Amazon account. They tell me someone just bought something that cost in the $800 or $900 range and ask me to click the included link if it was not me. I do the same thing, log into my account and see there is no item purchased.

I've received emails from Amazon and Paypal saying my account is blocked, and I need to click below so they can help me fix them. I never open them, and I wonder how many people fall for this scam.
