Jersey City -- May not have been much, to begin with -- But it sure ain't what it used to be --
Still, it would be wonderful "if" that pizza place was still open & still tasted as I remember it

I lived and worked in Plainfield for a short while.

Mark, Born 1948, grew up in Sea Girt, St.Rose in Belmar. Raised the family in Pt.Pl.Bch, finally leaving what had become an intolerable place to live 22 years ago. Vic’s always was a great spot, however, the Jersey Shore has had an inordinate amount of great Italian restaurants forever. Certainly the thing we miss most about living there.
We finally have a good pizza joint here, Mario’s, two guys from Brooklyn. Excellent.

Probably worth it, me and a buddy drive about 40 miles (round trip) for DQ burgers. Thankfully it's not around the corner. I'd be 100 lbs heavier
Loved this story, Mark. You have to be one of their longest surviving patrons. I’ve been going to a place in my neighborhood for over 40 years. Thanks for posting the link for Vic’s.
My first pizza was in 1947! I was 5 years old. My father would take us to Andy's in Long Island City across the street from the 108th Precinct. Now the pizza in NYC is not as good as it once was with a couple of exceptions. We go to Patsy's on 1st Ave and 117 Street. It's the original Patsy's and not the same as the franchise Patsy's you see all over Manhattan. This place still makes a pizza that tastes like the ones I remember from my childhood. John's of Bleecker Street is good also but I prefer Patsy's.
No good pizza where I live and I am not willing to drive 120 miles one way in one direction or 350 miles the other direction, one way. Drat, sometimes life can be so frustrating.
What a story, memories and great times spent. These are what adds to one's life's tapestry. Many one's lives!
Glad to see a private shop make it these days. Enjoy your visits. Looks like a very comfortable place to enjoy time and a good meal. What an uplifting post! Thx
Been there many times. For a change, drive down to the Trenton area for a Trenton Tomato Pie....

I will make a concerted effort to get there next time I’m in the NY area. My go to was always Di Fara on Ave. J in Brooklyn. Domenico DeMarco made every pie for over 50 years until his death last March. His children have it now so I can’t vouch for it as I haven’t been there in 6 years. They were always the top (27) Zagat rating in NYC (yes, I know you can’t eat a rating). I watched a few times and with San Marzano tomatoes, Buffalo Mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano, good quality pepperoni like Boarshead and fresh Basil I can come close enough to not make the 2800 mile trip.
