I tried to explain to my wife how she was basically a very well paid lady of the night. She honestly didn't see the humor in my explanation. Lol

After considering all of the options available I decided to go with Bitwarden but not the free version. The premium version for personal use is currently priced at $1 per month or if you pay upfront $10. It is also open source which from what I understand from security experts is a good thing. The interface is not as polished as LastPass but it is not difficult to get used to. I also discovered that transferring my passwords and data from LastPass to Bitwarden was quite easy and I did not experience any issues in completing the process.

I was a LastPass user for many years and was very satisfied with their service. I might have stayed with them even after the news of the hack into their system had they been fully transparent with the users and informed us about what we needed to do to protect our data. They didn't so my trust in them has diminished to the point where I felt that I needed to seek out other options. Too bad because it may now come down to their going out of business which would be such a shame.

I've used Last Pass for several years and was very happy with it until their most recent breaches. I just switch to Bitwarden. The switch was easy, it imported all my information from Last Pass and it seems very similar in usage. I'm using the free version at this point.

I have used KeePass for a couple decades. No cloud involved, you own your data. Everything is encrypted (I cannot believe LP neglected to encrypt everything). Sure you can sync using OneDrive, etc. I use a USB-C thumbdrive to sync my three devices.

Why would anybody want to use the web to store their passwords.
With all the security breaches it seems so unsafe.
I use WordPad to keep track of my passwords.
Like this.

Use copy & paste to insert your password.
So far only Microsoft sign in doesn't allow me use copy & paste. Figures.
Give that file a unique name, not 'passwords', that is easy for you to remember.

I don't like relying physical objects - pads or drives. I'd misplace them and be locked out.

The main reason that I used LastPass was the support for the fingerprint reader (The master password was too long to be typing in all the time). Does anyone know if any of the other password managers support the finger print reader?

And like some other, I don't store my most sensitive financial passwords in LastPass. And, for all of my financial passwords, I keep two factor authentication enabled (even if it gives me a change to "remember" that trusted device).

Last night I watched "Ask Leo" recommend switching away from LastPass. His main reason was lack of trust. They didn't handle themselves well after the break-in. He recommends 1Password, $36/year or Bitwarden, free. I don't like paying for software every year, so I might go with RoboForm, $12/year. I had been using the free version for years, but then it started glitching. That was rated #1 in a review of password keepers. As Leo said, there have been no reports of problems as a result of the break-in, and the chances of problems are infinitesimal.

I'm going with either RoboForm or Bitwarden, but I want to look into each one. I foresee a time in the not-too-distant future when we will have to pay forever for our software. That practice will extend to other products when the makers figure out how to do it. Carmakers are trying it now, not always successfully, though.

Hi jerryc41
I notice you're all over UHH like a virus, but in a good way. I look into a lot of your subjects.
I personally don't like any password program that is online. I use one that is on my hard drive and it is extremely useful. You can make notes on every password log. I even keep my banking information there. You just copy and paste usernames and passwords wherever you need. Been using it for years.
It is called Alternate Password DB. It has 256-bit encryption and is a personal database. It has a pleasant menu and appearance to it. And it is totally free. Freeware. This is their website:
