I did not take this photo, it is just my humble tribute to Pelé, who was the best soccer player in history and who happened to die today.

Many believe that this is also the best soccer photograph in history and shows one of Pelé's most brilliant moments.

As a staff photographer back then for Newsday Newspaper, I photographed Pele when he played for the NY Cosmos of the then NASL. What a gentleman and superb player. There wont be another. He is the only individual player to have won three World Cups.

Cheers

And honest enough to congratulate those who got the better of him. Gordon Banks made a save that some say is the greatest save ever and Pele never understood how his perfectly placed header had failed to score.

But he was man enough to congratulate Banks for making it.

I was fortunate to see him play a game in Chicago during that season with the Cosmos. He was still the best player on the pitch that evening.
