Two Days Before the Hard Freeze

The bees spent 9 months harvesting nectar from our herbs. The herbs have been destroyed by days of hard freeze; December 23rd - 27th. Up to 12 hours per night. Yes, Buffalo and a lot of places had it worse. It's rare for that long a stretch here. Usually, simply covering the plants would have been enough. These shots were taken Dec 23rd.

Sadly - yes... there are two plants that are okay, there was an ornamental pepper plant that is so hot and awkward on the tongue it was only good for stringing up and looking pretty. It's done. It's a drag, but in other places, stuff like this is over by early November and everybody is used to it. We use our herbs to make dishes all year and it grows huge... We can usually get it to March when it blows up again. I'm from way south in the true subtropics here in Florida... I've been in the Forest for 19 months. I feel the loss. ...but when they were healthy everybody was enjoying them.
I'm hopeful the seeds these plants have dropped since they started blooming will volunteer and we'll be back on track... or we just start with sprouts.

Basil is the herb... but you are on to something! The 1st bee is Edgar, the Second is Klondyke.

The freeze did the same here in Louisiana. One good thing it did was to kill off a lot of weeds.
