I just received an amended agreement from Avis for rental electric vehicles. Teslas are not to go through an automated car wash. Returned electric vehicles need to have at least a 70% charge. If the charge is less than 10% there is an additional fee.

Not weather related but the above was new info for me.

Car wash? That's pretty bizarre. There has only been one time in my life I've washed a rental car and that was when I drove one for a month while an auto body shop repaired my personal vehicle. I imagine they're worried about resale value from damaged paint and trim, not anything that might happen to the mechanics of the vehicle, but you never know. Interesting.

Automatic car washes are not an issue for Teslas. All Teslas have a car wash mode which disables windshield wipers and folds in mirrors.

Doesn't cold negatively affect batteries? Maybe they can install a small gas engine to keep the battery warm.

Yes, range will decrease during extreme cold but having watched news broadcasts in the US that's not the biggest problem. Trying to get to your destination without required capability and proper tyres in this kind of weather is more of an issue....

So far I have seen no discussion of range with a load of luggage and 4 people.
There was one a few months ago towing a very small trailer that took 2 days vs a few hours.

Weight, depending on the nature of the trip (for example long distance, no hills), does not make a huge difference. Once EV has reached a certain speed the energy required to maintain that speed will be the same no matter what weight.

Everything else that influences the CW value of a vehicle does make a big difference.....The driver in the video you're referring to was determined to show that EV's suck whilst towing. Actually it was the driver that sucked. I could have done it way better.

Fact remains that towing and EV require a big battery and a driver that knows how to get the most out of the battery...

My Jeep requires nothing different to tow.
And your moving theory is based on a flatlander's life.

One owner in an extreme cold area allowed his Tesla to go to 8%... then went to a charging station. The screen informed him that the battery system was warming and would then switch to charge. He was pleased with is Tesla.
