I recently ran into a problem with an older scanner that I had never hooked upo to the laptop. When I tried it,, it worked...sort of so I thought to try and find a new driver that would work. Tne problem was that the last driver update is for windows 98... not exactly available anymore. If your driver programs are up to date then there may be a bit of damage to one of the cable ends.

I've had the same issue with different accessories. The printer, or whatever, will appear in readiness and will even copy when that function is used, but otherwise will not do it's job.

Often it is a matter of your computer not recognizing the printer. simply turn them both off for a few minutes. Turn on the printer and allow to warm up and then turn on your computer and usually the computer will recognize and install the drivers for the printer and life is again good.

At other times you must uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall as you would with a new computer. Life can be good again.

I know from experience through a similar incident with a monitor. Monitor would flash "No Input" and turn off. Computer was on and ready. When connected to another monitor everything was fine. I purchased a new monitor, last ditch effort followed the above instructions of turning everything off and shazam! the old monitor worked. I kept the extra monitor for any potential emergency, so life was good again.

Just dabble with computers and hope this may help/explain what occurred.

Take an old roll of Kodachrome, the clipped end of a 120 roll of exposed Tri-X, a nikor 35 mm stainless reel, a pinch of D76 and pinch of Dektol...place these ingredients in an empty 5X7 box of Ilford photo paper. Now stand over your scanners and shake the box on the beat while playing Frank Zappa's immortal "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee." Do this for a full 30 seconds then chant Eastman Kodak three times.
That's it! You're done! Your scanners will work like knew...no problem...Glad I could help Jerry...

It used to be in the thermometer. It was in Fahrenheit, not Retrograde.

Check the return policy where you bought it. Some places give a 30 day window to return a product, no questions asked.

I had the same problem with my Eye-one screen calibrator. I unplugged and replugged. Same problem. So I repeated step 1 several times and finally it worked. The only explanation I can think of is that the connections acquire a coating of some sort that gets rubbed off with the plugging and unplugging.

A few days ago I asked for suggestions to get my Epson V600 scanner running. When I turned it on, the power LED would light up, but that's all it would do. I hadn't changed any connections, but I reconnected and plugged into a different USB port. Nothing.

So, I bought another one. I turned it on, and the power LED lit up, but that's all it would do. I kept plugging and unplugging, and finally it started working.

I got my old scanner and connected the wires that were running to the new one. It now works fine. It is connected with the same power cable and the same USB cable, plugged into the same USB port. The only difference is the $183 I spent.

For some reason, the old one would light up but not run, and it was exactly the same with the new one. Now they both work - and the connections are exactly the same as they always were.

Go ahead. Offer an explanation. I dare you!

Maybe the new scanner didn't approve of the picture you were trying to scan and finally you got one that the scanner liked, and decided you were OK after all .

You may have software problem. Something computer people call a glitch. or may be a "driver" check with the manufacturer they may have an "update" for you problem.

Jerry, beware!! Do not return the new scanner for a refund! I can guarantee that if you do, within twenty four hours your old scanner will stop working again. It's part of Murphy's Law. ......... Coot

It's electronics. Some problems just defy all explanation. I used to install business telephone systems, which are just computers. Sometimes they would fail and then just start working again for no apparent reason. I just chock it up to gremlins.

Do you still have your receipt for the second scanner? If not, maybe you can still take it back for a refund.

Amazon - easy return. I have a UPS delivery arriving on Tuesday, so I'll have him take the scanner with him. Too expensive to keep as a spare.

Of that, I have no doubt. My "broken" scanner didn't start working till I bought a new one. Typical.

Jerry, OK try this one on for size. I just consulted an old friend. I explained your situation and he said oh, that's an easy one, it's PFM. Hmmm PFM, what the heck does PFM stand for. I should explain that he's a retired corporate pilot and he flew with the same co-pilot for many years. He said when ever anything happened on the airplane they were flying that they couldn't explain logically they decided it was caused by PFM. So I said OK I understand you had to attribute it to something, but what in the world does PFM stand for. He said Pure Fu**ing Magic!! So there you go, it's got to be PFM. No doubt about it.

Jerry;
First question: Did your computer recognize your old scanner when you opened CONTROL PANEL and displayed your PRINTERS/SCANNERS menu or "MY COMPUTER" menu?

If it did, then your drivers were installed and it should have functioned. I suspect you have a loose connection in either your USB cable or the USB connector.
Sometimes, your system can get the drivers corrupted and they may require re-installation, but normally, as long as your scanner or printer is recognized by the system, it should work.

Question #2: Did you have some scan or print function that was waiting in your spooler? This also could halt the scanner or printer from functioning as your present job will be placed as the second job in the waiting list of the spooler. You need to clear the spooler by deleting the jobs listed before a new job can be executed.

Question #3: Was there something else connected at the same time to your USB bus that could have halted your bus communications?

Get back to me with your responce.

Can you return the new scanner and get your money back?

Yes. When scanning X-rated pictures you should have a scanner with an "X" as part of the model number.
