Great shot, Sippy! Just curious, since you’re using microscope objective lenses, what is your working distance on a shot like this one?

Thanks, Stan. The 2.5X is a lower power so it produces a deeper depth of field than one of higher magnification. It is a biological use objective designed to be used on a DIN-style microscope (The focal tube length of a DIN standard microscope objective is 160mm).

This objective provides about two inches of working distance which allows for adequate illumination of the subject.

I like the way the dragonfly appears smiling, although I doubt that any prey it catches would not appreciate seeing that smile.

I staged this preserved dragonfly for a focus stacking session using a Melles Griot 2.5X Finite microscope objective as the optic for the camera. It's one of my favorites in my collection and I enjoy staging it for a session from time to time.

Excellent, as usual. Same threads as the mitutoyo?

Thanks, Robert. It's an RMS thread objective. I bought a set of them (2.5X, 6.5X, 25X, and 40X) on eBay for the three of them to fill the gap between what I already had for the microscope (I already had a 40X). I made an offer of $30 plus shipping for the set and he accepted my offer. I hadn't given them much thought and the other day while playing around I thought, what the heck, let's see what these can do. I was quite surprised at the performance of the 2.5X.
