This was home made with dimentional lumber.

Wow, Bill! That must have taken hours to put together, with the inlay and moulded lines.

These other companies—do they have minimum purchase amounts? Do they ship if you don't live in the Valley and can't be running down there all the time? Do they have some sort of catalog, either print or online?

Thanks.

You may have to set up a sales account with the state where you live I did this in NJ and VT. This allows you to buy from Don Mar tax free.

The ones I use do have catalogues. They also have samples you can take home. I don't know about shipping. I go pick up stuff. If you're local, they deliver.

In my area Windsor Plywood sells picture frame molding. The other thing to look at is architectural molding such as fancy base or trim. I presume you have the skills to make PERFECT measurements and mitre cuts. If not you will be driven crazy chasing gaps. An alternative that is cheaper by far is a trip to Goodwill and a can of spray paint.

Buy a few tools such as a router etc... and make your own frames. I posted a while back on how matting and framing along with image capture make up the TRIANGLE of presentation. I since have purchased a plunge router and a Mat cutting machine. I live rural and plan on collecting old barn wood to cut and route for the rustic frames... I realize this might not be for everybody but I have a little shop and a few tools... LOTS of archives waiting to be properly PRESENTED. Will keep you posted...

I think of dimensional lumber as 2x4", 1x6", etc., as opposed to the length of the board.

I could be wrong.

Thanks Stan.

It's a hobby so I don't have to keep track of time. If I did, I'd probably look for a new hobby

Go to this link! They are an international company that sells and ships everything for picture framing. They have an extremely wide selection of moldings, custom and ready-made frames, matte boards, glass, and whatever else you can need.

I have been dealing withte for years and am completely satisfied with the services.

If anyone know where to buy picture frame moulding please let me know.

Having spent many years in the Custom Framing business, there are many Companies selling framing materials usually in 10 or 8ft lengths. Mostly they sell wholesale but many sell to individual customers. One is "Studio Moulding". They also sell the accessory items you need to put the frames together.

I used to buy Frame kits But they are almost extinct now and they were not cheap.
I think the last one I bought almost 6 yrs ago for a 16X20 Aluminum frame with non-glare glass was over $50

I make my own frames from preprimed chair rail molding from Home Depot. I mill a 1/4 rabbet on the inside edge,
cut the 45's, glue them up, then paint the frame semi-gloss black. I then mask off everything except the 1/2 inch on the short side which I paint gold.
