Hey, if you don't like the Mac Pro as a Mac, you can run Windows on it. It's an Intel computer.
Not if it's a new Mac with the M-1 Chip!
ONE BIG GIANT FUZZT CAVEAT GOES HERE!!!
If you install Windows on a Mac as a booter, it writes to BIOS.
Except there isn't any. It'll partially write to UEFI. You may end up with a brick.
Trust me. This what I'm doing in me olde age.
THIS is being typed on my newish cMacpro 4,1, booting Windows 10 Pro.
You need a PC. Install Windows. Replace disk into Mac. Boot. Wait for drivers to load. Reboot.

I am handing over the 13" MacBook Pro to one of my photography mentors tomorrow, at his request; he has worked with Apple devices for a lot of years, he wants to see if he can determine what is going on. He is a contracted product photographer and moves files back and forth every day, between Apple systems and Windows systems. I purchased this unit the summer of 2021, because of this problem the unit has less than 3 hours total run time on it. I bought it for its really nice retinal display for viewing digital image files, that is all; have no desire to edit any images using it nor using it as a normal laptop. If my mentor and one other computer geek I work with cannot figure out what is going one, the Apple is toast, along with its accessories, going to the highest bidder sans its really nice genuine leather carrying case. One less frustration in my life! (Pretty sure the unit has an Apple M1 processor in it.) I worked for over 25 years as a tech rep in graphic arts; as prepress functions went more and more digital, Apple became the industry's standard, for whatever reason. I do not find this unit to be intuitive at all, not for me.

I have found that my iMacs far outlast any PC I had in the past. Right now, I am typing on a 2013 27" iMac that is still working. Two years ago, I gave my 2009 27" iMac away so the grandkids could watch children's programing.
Any 9 year old PC is now used as a doorstop if it hasn't been scrapped.

I don't know what walled garden you are referring to, please expand.

I hate to disagree with you but, my Second Generation iPad is a doorstop because the software can no longer be updated and none of the current apps will run on it. I am typing this on my 10 year old PC.

I don't know what generation my ipad is (only used to play solitaire now because nothing else works on it except a mapping program) but the OS and Safari stopped being updated years ago. PCs of similar age still update. Have to give credit where it is due - the battery still has most of its original capacity left. But Apple has built in obsolescense.

If you just want an image viewer you could use an iPad.

I would never accept the straitjacket that Mac puts me in.

We are the Borg.
You will be assimilated.
Resistance is futile!

What I truly despite of Apple, is that "ecosystem" thing.

I understand that non tech inclined people just want an appliance, not a computer, but...
I want to build my computers to my own specs, load the OS I want, connect it to the periferials I need, modify it as as desired and, above everything else, use it exactly as I want.

Apple is like living in Central Manhattan... You inhabit a fancy apartment and have nice pubs nearby. But trying to own a car is a nightmare and if you want a pet it has to be approved by the building commission first.

I prefer to live in the Open drive s big truck, hunt and cook my own food.

Each one to his own.

For over 40 years, I have watched Apple try to make inroads in the business world. There is a reason they have been entirely unsuccessful. Apple has a closed operating system, which creates limitations. And that is just the tip of the iceberg… My experience with Apple computers is you have to be willing to work the way Apple wants you to work. They have been successful at making technology easier for a lot of people, but that comes at a price. As Einstein said ‘make it as simple as possible, but no simpler.’ Of course, the reverse is true. The Windows operating system has its pluses and minuses, as well.

In my experience, I would NEVER get nor ever use an Apple product based on this experience alone. Yeah, the display is great but at what cost, having to keep two copies of everything, one for Windows and another for Apple.

Yeah, you are right on b gun…just get the Mac in the beginning and dump the old Windows beastie.

What a freakin' pain in the arse using a nearly brand new Apple Mac Pro which I purchase solely to view images on when on a Nikon holiday. I love the image rendering, it is great! What I do NOT like, every JPEG image file that has been converted from a Nikon NEF file using Nikon's NX Studio software, every one of those has been reformatted after viewing on my Mac and no longer viewable on my Windows 10 desktop 'puter. The Mac adds a prefix to every viewed file and when I attempted to rename the file by eliminating the prefix, that process did not undo what the Mac had done. What this means, I have to have a duplicate set of files just for viewing on the Mac. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...................................

Your lack of Mac knowledge/experience is what is wrong here. I will not repeat Burk photo’s answer, but you should read it! Grab your user’s manual and thoroughly understand how to make your Mac sing!
