When I had my 12MP Nikon d2 I felt safer knowing that it would survive the collision with some muggers jaw when swung from the end of the neck strap. the lens might not survive but the body sure would. It was also nice knowing that I was carrying a camera that cost over $5K new and I only paid $200 for it. My oldest daughter uses it now to make beautiful images.
With 12MP you can make beautiful 8x10 prints and acceptable 11x14 prints. with AI even larger.

I used 6.5 MP camera for 16x20 and 20x24 award winning photos against much higher resolution cameras.

Yeah, I did because that is what was implied. Any photographer, great or not so great who shoots RAW is using a photoshop type of program to process the image. That leaves JPEG where the camera does all the heavy lifting as far as processing is concerned. Better yet, find me a "Great" photographer who doesn't use post processing of some type. If you can.

No, that's what you inferred.

(It was humor.)

Awards in 2022? Or, past awards using past cameras, trying to pass off this anecdote as relevant in December 2022?

I was in a few hotel lobbies over the Thanksgiving holiday travel. I've seen this before in the pre Covid days. Specifically, you can really see the visual difference of older cameras in large prints. They don't have any of the fine details today's modern cameras are delivering today in December 2022. They were the best of breed, but those bloodlines are exhausted in comparison to today's technology.

There are three classes of photographers: those that see the visual difference of more pixels and everyone else.

A good photographer has a mirrorless camera.
A great photographer masters PhotoShop.

A good photographer doesn't need a mirrorless camera! A mirrorless camera won't make you a good photographer!

Certainty, Boldness and Confidence are the common attributes of all those who go mirrorless.

Wow, so many people need to stand up and see if the humor hits them the next time it goes around the room.....

That’s kind of like saying Ansel Adams didn’t need a darkroom. Pretty silly isn’t it.

Maybe. Maybe not. You inferred it as humor, and while it certainly could have been it also certainly may not have been. Only the person who wrote that statement knows for sure. There are some who believe that their photos involve no processing.

A real photographer like Ansel Adams hiked all the way into those mountains and took one perfect shot and hiked home to glory.

Just like processing, how expensive a camera/lens is, camera model, etc... only the photographer knows for sure.
Or mostly cares.

Mostly for low light performance and possibly slight edge in HDR.
