You won’t love the weight of the 7200. Moving to a 5500 keeps similar ergonomics and image quality.

Hi friends....I am sure this topic has been covered To Death, and for this I apologize. I have a little Nikon D3300 which I LOVE. It's simple and easy and I never have to think as I use it. Alas, it's getting a bit worn as I have almost used it to death. I am in the market for an upgraded body, but as I have quite a few lenses that I use a lot, I still want the F-mount and whatever else the specs are with the D3300. I am retired, NOT professional and just take photos to please myself.....mostly macro, landscape and family stuff. What would you all recommend as a logical step up? I'd like to not outgrow it, yet have it a bit more sophisticated than my little D3300. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience! Rita

As a former user I would recommend a D7200 lots of worthwhile upgrades including 2 card slots.

I would get the Nikon D7500. This link might help you decide.

Looks like I am a day behind in email.
Get the D5500 unless you prefer the connectiveness of the D5600. I edit everything before it goes abroad, so I happily chose the D5500.
If you do want a physically larger camera the D7100 and D7200 are wonderful for planned casual shooting. I make use of the two card slots by switching cards out to the computer for download (as edited), sometimes just leaving one card in the camera.
My last four cameras have been happy refurbs.

I would recommend the D7500 for you. I have the impression that cost is not a problem. The D7500 is a camera that performs well at any task. You say you only take certain kinds of pictures, but you can’t predict what you will decide to do in the future. The D7500 is weather sealed, light to carry, shoots 8 frames a second, has a buffer that allows you to shoot continuously for 6 or 7 seconds, and will work with any lens you used on the D3300. Lots of people have noted it doesn’t have a second card slot, but this is a feature more important to professionals who depend on a camera for income. I have never had a problem with memory card failure in any of my cameras. If you try out a D7500, you will notice the brighter view finder first and then discover there is a learning curve to using all the features. It still has the auto and program modes you are familiar with, so you can rely on those while you learn the new features. All in all the D7500 is a well rounded camera that will be up to any challenge you’re likely to encounter.

Look at the specs of all the D5xxx and D7xxx ideas. None offer more pixel resolution above the 24MP of your D3300. Several actually lower the pixel resolution to 20MP.

If you've survived this far without a 2nd card slot, do you need one now? You've survived this long without support for legacy F-mount lenses without focus motors, do you need a camera that offers that support now?

Reconsider whether you need to spend any money to replace a perfectly functional camera with no actual changes in the image results and marginal changes in the handling. There are probably several ideas that are a better use of that GAS urge.

For your use, it would not make any difference between the 7200 and the 7500. I have a 7100 and a 7500. There is really not much difference between them. I upgraded because the buffer on the 7100 is too slow. But as for the quality, they are very similar.

Either is a big upgrade and either will work fine.

You may consider moving up to the Z50. It is comparable to the 5xxx system and it will get you into the mirrorless game. There will not be any improvement in DSLRs, all the improvements are going into the mirrorless system. DSLRs are dead as far as all of the camera manufacturers.

Ditto.
Pretty much an upgraded camera to yours, but still like it.
The sensor is the same, the lenses work the same, and it works almost the same.
I have my D3100, traded the D7100 towards a D610- which works like the D7100.
Nikon and KEH have refurbed Nikons, with decent warranties.
