NOT A JOKE: the entire ancient world believed the earth was flat until ca. 575 BCE when the philosopher Anaximander proved it was a sphere!

NO.

At no point in recorded history was it commonly believed that the world was flat. One need only see a ship slowly disappear over the horizon --- AND THEN COME BACK -- to realize the earth was round. Seeing the round moon and sun would also be a clue.

Anaximander was, among other things, a mapmaker, and he realized his maps be more accurate if they were designed on a curved metal surface. But his major innovation was putting the entire (known) world on one map. He did nothing to "prove" it was round (as that was unnecessary).

That's embarrassing on two counts: the one wearing it and the man trying to pretend he isn't looking. 😜

So, they're "counts" now, are they? That's another word we have to be careful of, now. ;-)

There is a guy who drives around Prescott, AZ with flat earth sayings hand painted on his truck. I see him everywhere when I'm there. Professionally painted, in the midst of scribbled junk, is http://flatearth101.com/

He's hyping his web site, that's all.

I wonder if he makes much money from that site. I imagine it would get a lot of traffic because of how ridiculous it is.

Just to let everyone know we could take a running start and jump out a window and fly around to see the world is round.

If you are afraid to jump out a window, you could fly a MiG 29 jet at 65,000 feet.
You will see the curvature of the Earth and you will be one of the few who are nicknamed “Screaming Mimi”

Nah. Those who are of such a mindset will convince themselves that "something was put in the air I was breathing" 🙄, or "I was hypnotized" 🤪, or something like that. [SMH]

If a flat earther wanted to talk to another on the 'other side', would he/she have to-- just look over the edge?
Just a question.

Actually history has been rewritten - since we're on the flat earth thing here.
The ships were actually Polish funded. But the names have been changed to fit the story vernacular.
The REal names were the Ninsky, the Pinsky and the Santa Marinsky!

Not really. The Phoenicians were seafaring and sailed far enough out into the Mediterranean that you could see the hull disappear first, then the lower part of the sail, and gradually up the sail until it too was lost below the horizon. They realized the earth must be round before the Greeks. But it took the Greeks to make an honest attempt to measure the earth's diameter.

It’s a shame that there is a group of people can never have the desire to learn to pilot a plane.

My son found out that one the employees in his building is a flat earther. The earth is flat; there is no gravity - "things fall because of their density;" NASA uses pseudo-science; stuff that's written in a book doesn't prove anything. A woman made the mistake of trying to reason with him. That was a mistake.

I always wonder how they can look up at the moon and other planets in the night sky and think that the earth is different than the balls we see going around us and is a flat plane.

What was that round colorful thing in the black sky that the Apollo astronauts photographed from the moon? (Even if the moon landings were actually Stanley Kubrick productions, as some conspiracy theorists assert, supposedly he was such a perfectionist that he made 'em shoot on location, so the photos . . . )
