Been using the D500 from the beginning & LOVE. Is there a mirror-less Nikon as easy to use & your thoughts?

Also has anyone used the HP Smart app for their HP printer. Love this but stopped working. Any experience with this issue? Thanks in advance-----Allan

While there are currently three Nikon z APS-C cameras, none of them are intended as direct
sports and wildlife replacement for your D500. You could always get one of the full frame Z models, but, the apparent reach wouldn't be as far,. Finally, unless you're considering purchasing new lenses for it, using your existing lenses with an adapter may end up not saving you very much weight if that is one of your goals.

It does beg the question, if you continue to love your D500 why are you considering changing it? Perhaps if you gave us some of your reasoning we could give you better advice.

I bought a D500 several years ago...after buying my D850. Now have two of each. The D500s are my primary cameras, unless something calls for the resolution or additional functional of the D850s. I've found that there is a certain unquantifiable "magic" about shooting the D500...it extends far beyond sports and wildlife. The balance, the feel, the shutter seem to be just the start of that magic. I've looked, but have not yet found anything close, mirrorless or not. In my opinion, discontinuing that camera at this time was a serious mistake on Nikon's part. There are both DX and FX cameras that clearly have some advantages on paper. I've not yet found one that brings those advantages to real life in any way that makes a change worthwhile.

I have been using the HP Smart app for years and two HP Printers. I use the wireless option of communication between the printer and computer. It has stopped working once before in the past. I went to the HP site, downloaded the smartap and repaired it with my printer. Worked fine ever since.

You should wait until next year - they will very likely be releasing a pro level DX mirrorless camera to replace the D500 and likely will also be releasing the 200-600 to go with it (assuming you are a wildlife/birder).

Easy to use, same IQ (20 mp) and lightweight and small.
Works fine with adapted very recent lenses.
