When I was becoming a fire eater I put a few drops of Endorphin Rush hot sauce on a spoon directly into my mouth. In what seemed like a millisecond my face turned beet red; my nose and eyed were running like a faucet. It was great!

I long ago outgrew the need to prove I could consume hot stuff.
That realization occurred when I started passing blood in my stool.

My teen years were spent in Jamaica where I became fond of the flavor of Scotch Bonnet peppers.
They are a close relative of the Habanero. When fresh they have a wonderful fruity flavor.
According to where they are from, as each Caribbean island has a slightly different climate and soil composition.

When consumed sensibly, they have a great flavor and you can regulate your compression ratio.

My little brother grows these. Don't know why because he just drys them out. Doesn't use them.

A while ago I bought some cheese with pepper chunks that turned out to be ghost pepper - should have read the label before tasting. Way too hot for me.

Birds don't mind them because they lack the "heat sensors". The plant evolved "hot" to keep mammals away. A bird will eat the seeds (which they can't digest), and crap them out many miles away, thus expanding the range of the plant.
After drying them and grinding into a powder, I mix it with the Peanut Butter that I give the birds. It's fun watching Squirrels try a mouthful....

Yeah, I know of it. Had an unfortunate experience with that stuff sometime back when it "accidentally"got into something I'd ordered at a local taco place. It took just about 3 months for my mouth to heal up after that. Had the owner of the establishment not been a friend, I think I might have filed suit for damages. Don't recommend ever trying it unless you are really in to that type of punishment.

I barely tolerate Jalapenos... So when cooking with them, I place them in a large bowl of water, and proceed to core/seed under water, on the stove, with the vent-a-hood running! Found a pretty nifty tool at a large flea market in Texas that does an excellent job of coring/seeding the jalapenos!

I love hot stuff and have read numerous times that hot peppers were good for you. One of the few foods I like that can say that.
The guy that developed the hottest reaper's said he did it because he learned hot peppers were a cancer prevention food. and I've read often where hot peppers are good for you. I realize some people can't eat hot, my wife is one, but it never really bothered me or my digestive track in the least. What my wife considers hot, I can't even say is spicy. I told her often she is the reason you can't get hot stuff in a restaurant...

Some hot peppers have funky flavor, some have good flavor. I could drink Franks Red Hot sauce out of the bottle, and I put a ton of it in my chili and taco's for the flavor and spiciness. I also like a bit of the really hot stuff in there if the flavor is right.

I've never had anything labeled "HOT" in any restaurant that I considered hot. The hottest I found was at a Quaker State and Lube joint that claimed to have Atomic Chicken Wings. They had some fake papers the menu said you needed to sign to eat them. You didn't, and I did eat them. They were medium hot imo, but were terrible wings. In other words, all show and no go.

I enjoy some spice in some dishes but I abolutely will not even thin of trying snything with Ghost or Carolina Reaper peppers. I tried a burger one time that advertised it had Ghost peppers on it. I could taste nothing but the peppers and did not enjoy the irritation in my mouth. I couldn't even enjoy the beeer I ordered to go with the burger. The hottest I'll go with are Habeneros, and them I'll be conservative with.

While I love hot stuff, only certain stuff like chili, taco's, salsa, hot sausage, wings and some soups. I love burgers but hate hot or even spicy burgers. Also don't like spicy eggs. Some things are good hot some not so much. Everyone is different.

Wonder why the California Reaper is not on there?
Our first hot pepper plant my wife bought at Home Depot or somewhere. I don't know the name on it but when I took a bite of one I about died. It was SUPER HOT. The tag said what it was and that it was MILD. Obviously some clown must have switched the label.

I saved the seeds and planted one. It grew great, but alas, when ripe, none of the peppers were hot, slightly mild. I guess it was a hybrid and didn't pass on the hot genes. This is a pic of the offspring, I think the original looked more like the Scorpions. It was what got us started on the really hot peppers.
