For all those that have been waiting for months for their Z9, I ordered directly from Nikon USA on the 15th. Today, 15 days later I got an email saying it’s in stock and ready to ship.

Congratulations! A lot of people have waited long periods of time for that camera, you are fortunate to get it so quickly. Be sure to let us know when it arrives and what you think of it.

Congrats! Sounds like Nikon's production has caught up with demand. Now if I can only get my 800mm f/6.3 . . .

A friend and I both ordered one a couple of months ago and both received it within 5 days. I thought they were already caught up. I am surprised at how long you had to wait. Are there still lots of long wait back orders out there? It is a great camera.

Until they fix the tracking problem, I am staying away from it.

Billnikon,
What is the tracking issu?
I haven’t heard.
They have come out with like 4 or 5 firmware releases since I got mine. 2 in a row just recently.

Sounds to me like you don't have a tracking problem.

It appears Nikon now produces enough Z9s that they actually be In Stock soon. You will love your Z9. Personally, I have been shooting the Z9 as a pro sports photographer since the beginning of this year and have ABSOLUTELY no subject tracking issues, including football under the lights. My firmware is absolutely up-to-date. Best of luck.

OH, I wish it weren't so, but it is. For those of us who really want Nikon to hit a home run with the Z9, disappointment is a hard pill to swallow.
As many here know I shoot all winter in Florida wetlands. I shoot with many internet influencers, many good ones, who will remain nameless. I have shot side by side with pro's and advanced amateurs using both the Z9, Sony a9 and a1, and Canon's new entries.
The main problem with the Z9 seems to be picking up and maintaining focus on a moving bird in front of a complicated background. With the D5, D850, and D500, Nikon had a focus system called GROUP AUTO FOCUS, which consists of four dots in a triangular formation in the center of the viewfinder, if a bird was within those four dots the bird was in focus in front of what ever back ground there was behind it.
For some reason, when Nikon came out with the Z9 and a new focusing system, they dropped GROUP AUTO FOCUS focusing system.
No, I am not aware of any firmware fix for this problem yet.
Actually, my a9, which is older technology than the Z9, maintains better focus tracking than the Z9.
Again, I shoot with folks who also shot with the Z9, and those folks have reported the tracking issue too. And it is not just one photographer saying that, many internet influencers are saying the same thing about the Z9 after testing it.
So, if your not tracking a small bird against a complicated background, your probably going to love the Z9. The Z9 is a great step forward for Nikon and I applaud them for it. Hey, look at my screen name, "billnikon", I want Nikon to be a leader too, but for now they are second fiddle to Sony and Canon, not by much mind you, but that little bit is keeping me in the Sony system for now.

So just wondering, anyone that you have shot with using the OM-1? How does its tracking compare with the Sony a1?

Sorry to see you have abandoned the Nikon Brand. Using the latest firmware, you can not only re-create the Group Auto Focus, you can expand on it. Add to that eye focus on birds as the priority and you have a pretty sophisticated focus system for BIF. Too bad you can't try that a a Sony owner! Best of luck.

I haven't used an OM-1, or an A1, but I do know that Olympus released a firmware update that improves on its continuous AF. Be sure your OM-1 is at version 1.2. It's been available for three months.

Meanwhile, here's a very important article for OM-1 users with the Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm lens:

Spoiler: He means the old Panasonic-Leica lens acts like a new one on the OM-1 body!

My Sony a1 covers everything forBIF using eye focus within any of the 12 focusing systems I wish to use.
Again, I love Nikon and Canon, they make excellent quality. But for the way I shoot Sony appears to be the best alternative at this time.
PS. According to my Nikon sources, Nikon no longer has GROUP AUTO FOCUS, nor can it be, CREATED, I don't know where you got that information.
