It would be fine if it's not out of your price range, especially if you have the two-lens kit and see no need for much further expansion. There are less expensive routes to starting out which would be both a learning experience and save you money if you discover that photography is not for you. Several of the Nikon (or other brands) DSLRs can be had as used for half price or less and are still quite capable cameras. You'll probably get "several" other answers, so have fun, and good luck with your choices.

It is not only an excellent cameras for beginners, but it is also an excellent camera for more advanced shooters assuming they don't require some of the features of higher end models.

I have a Z5 which is a good balance between capability and simplicity. If the Z50 has similar menus (including a similar quick access menu) and similar controls, it will be close to optimum. Plus a Z50 would be a good preparation for progressing to more advanced Z series cameras (a good direction to be heading in).

To me, if you are starting out I would buy the Z5. Understanding and learning are no different.

The Z50 is a delightful camera that is a joy to use. I would only suggest that the Z5 should also be considered, for the following reasons:
1) IBIS. The Z50 does not have in-body stabilization. The kit lenses do, but not all other Z mount lenses have VR, so the possible future lens choices my be limited.
2) Form Factor. Try holding each to see how they feel. Some people might prefer the heft of the larger Z5 body.
3) Full Frame vs. Crop. Not a valid consideration for a beginner camera IMHO, but is sure to be mentioned. Frankly, I feel the crop frame format is more useful, but opinions vary.

I love my Z 50. It is easy to learn and the results have been above what I expected. It is very lightweight and easy to carry around. The kit lenses are certainly adequate for a beginner. I highly recommend it.

I would think the Z5 is better choice than Z50.For beginner one can forget about the crop factor.

The Z50 is an excellent choice for a beginner camera - full feature set, impressive image quality, and a bargain price. It's the camera I bought to see for myself to test the mirrorless waters. Highly recommend.

Yes! The EVF...the low light performance...the size and grip...and the kit lenses are more than ample . There still is a learning curve of the basics for a beginner, but it's definitely worth the effort!
