It is, indeed, a nice, lightweight tripod, so worth holding on to.
My Sunpak pistol grip head can pan, but it does so at the top quick release platform rather than the base for a ball head. Interestingly, it's a better pan function for panoramic shots because it rotates about the base of the camera rather than the base of the tripod (so leveling with the ball head applies to the panning axis).
