Terrific photos! Got me thinking of our trip in 2008 driving the Lincoln Highway from our home near Philadelphia to San Francisco. In Nevada, we drove route 50 “the loneliest road in America” and saw the shoe tree. The story is a honeymooning couple got into an argument and she said she was going home. The husband responded that she’d have to go barefoot and threw her shoes onto a nearby cottonwood. Lots of others followed as this picture shows.
Distressing to learn some vandals chopped it down some years ago!
