We had a great cruise on board the National Geographic/Lindblad "Sea Bird." It was a photography cruise with one National Geographic photographer (Rich Reid) and three other photo instructors. The only problem was that it was alway overcast. Accordingly, my shots rarely have the bright colors I hoped to use.

Organization of my shots is primarily chronological, but certain things (like the whales) deserve their own post.

You will run out of interest and patience before I run out of shots (LOL).

As always, please share your comments and suggestions.

I have also just returned from a land tour and a cruise from Whittier Alaska to Vancover, British Columbia. experienced some nice clear weather in Denali but the rest of the time was cloudy with some rain. Got to see some whales, moose, Dallas sheep, bears, and caribou on the trip so its all good.

Looks like you had a great trip. As for the weather Mother Nature is the boss. So you work with what she gave you. Seems you did alright. 🤔

Beautiful Mike even though you had overcast skies....One good thing about overcast though, it makes the terminus of the glaciers much bluer...ps, what ship?

Good job, UTMike. I will never tire of seeing the beauty and majesty of Alaska. It's unlikely that I will never have the opportunity to visit Alaska, so thanks for taking me along with you through the lens of your camera.

I believe the lighthouse is "Five Finger Light". I used to speak with the guys out there during the 60's when I was a USCG Radioman stationed at CG radio station NMJ outside of Ketchikan. Four guys manned that station for a year each. Every 3 months one of the guys out there rotated off so there was always an experienced crew out there to train the new guy.
Great shots, brought back some great memories of my time up there.

Mike, good work. Cloudy or not beautiful scenery. This cruise was our favorite of all cruises we took. Looking forward to more of you work,

Nice set Mike, you are showing me areas I didn't get on my Alaska trip

Thanks, Jack, National Geographic goes to "back woods" areas and is allowed to off load onto islands.

Actually I like the 3rd one as my favorite, and the somberness of the gray only adds to it. and of course a touch of red never hurts at all.

Having said that, the final shot is National Geo quality for certain.

I need to find my way to Alaska soon.
thanks,
fwt

I appreciate your kind comments, Fred. Alaska is a wonderful destination for a photographer.

Nice shots overcast or not. I have been so lucky during the times when we have been there. What a great place but the weather is constantly changing. Thanks for posting.

Great series, Mike, and I'm certain the clouds won't cast any fog on your memories. Was this your first Nat Geo tour? Interested to hear how you feel it compared to others.

Thanks, Chance. This was our second NataGeo tour (both to Alaska - different parts). The first tour had better weather and more different animals, but there is little that can be done about weather. We really like the smaller boat and Zodiac tour by NatGeo.
