Not everybody who shoots full frame has the same size hands.

I don't mean hand size. I meant sensor size. They should only make full frame camera in different sizes from pocket one to a big one with large vertical grip.

Maybe the reason they named the camera in the Z series is because this may be the last of this camera? Remember Z is the last letter in the alphabet!

Each company should use only one size. But different companies should each use a different size. Then you just buy the brand thaz for your hand size.

This would eliminate all the ultra stoopid discussions concerning recommending a camera. The buyer just measures their hand and that decides the brand. Then they should buy as far up the food chain as their budget can stretch in that brand.

If you have Leica sized hands you can apply for financial assistance from the Portuguese government.

Perhaps they did start with Z1. It could be similar to WD40. That happened to be the 40th formula that worked the way the company wanted.

Nobody cares about Chanel #1-4.

Nobody cares about Preparations A through G.

Nobody cares what the 56 other varieties that Heinz makes.

And, as you said, nobody cares about WD 1 through 39.

But, yes… calling the first "Z" model the Z1 (or Z-1) would have made more sense.

In the case of the Z fc it is not a guess. Nikon clearly states it in their announcement of the Z fc in June 2021.

"The letter "f" in the Z fc's name is a reference to models with symbolic importance in Nikon's history, while also being inspired by the word "fusion," representing the coming together of tactile precision mechanics and high image quality. The letter "c", meanwhile, conveys Nikon's wish for this camera, with all its inherited tradition, to be used by anyone, anywhere, "casually"."

Yes i understand what your saying but but is there any advantage of having a camera with a dedicated shutter speed dial and exposure compansation to one that doesn't?....in other words is the Z fc just a Z50 in retro style?

It comes down to personal preference. They are very similar, but not identical, cameras on the inside. On the outside they are as different as they can be. I have access to both. The Z50 is my wife's camera and the Z fc is mine. I much prefer using my Z fc. While its retro look and top dials are part of the reason for that, I also prefer the general ergonomics, the more articulate LCD screen, including the ability to hide it, and the general layout of the dials, buttons, and controls. My wife, on the other hand, prefers the Z50 for its DSLR like controls and handling, including a large and comfortable grip. In the end, regardless of what is inside, they are two different cameras which provide two very different shooting experiences. To take the retro experience one step further I often use my Voigtlander manual focus 23mm and 35mm f/1.2 lenses designed for Z mount bodies. I am in photographic heaven using the Z fc with my Voigtlanders.

Some people like it but I wouldn’t think of it as an advantage. Even back in my film days I found the shutter speed dial awkward if trying to change shutter speeds while looking through the viewfinder. The command dial is much easier to use. Same with the dedicated EC dial. My Sony RX10MIV has one and much prefer the button/command dial combo.

As I indicated in my previous post it really comes down to personal preference.

Well, this thread was mostly banter amongst good friends.
What I really would like to see is a posting from Canon and Nikon and, etc. for those who would like to invest a small amount of time on the production staff to render their opinions.

Even an opportunity to work out the bugs and kinks so a photography expert can provide a decent evaluation

For me, a lot of what makes a camera “work” for you is ergonomics and what fits you personally. It can be argued till the cows come home which camera brand is better. What’s important is which one is better for you. Both my daughter and I have older Canon DSLRs and I have several Nikon’s. I have large hands and for me the Nikons feel more natural. She has small slim hands and she prefers the feel on the Canons. The Canon controls, especially the shutter button forces my finger into an unnatural position. The fact that my hands have taken a physical beating from farming could have something to do with it.

New innovations seldom remain exclusive so if your brand doesn’t have something the other one does, chances are they will in short order. It all boils down to what’s good for you.
