Yep a '62 Bel Air two door hard top. I had a '62 Impala four door hardtop with factory air.
Hands down my favorite car.

And with the 409, dual 4 barrel 425 hp, it was a bad ass on the drag strip with competition from the 406 Ford tripower and the Mopar 413 wedge. The 60s was the beginning of big block 400+hp American muscle cars.

While working in "68" I spotted a 55 chevy with 409 stuck in it for 225.00 on vacant lot for sale... Called wife and BORROWED 225 from neighborhood loan company.... Was not even room up front for battery... relocated to trunk. Stuff you wish you kept...

No, mine was a small block. The guy I bought it from in '66 had come up with a copy of the 327, which I think came out of a Corvette as it was 340hp with the single 4bbl and I think the factory jobs were either the detuned 250 or the 300hp version. Good looks and a Borg Warner T10 with Hurst shifter and lower gears in the back (4.11?, I think) made it fun to drive around town, and while not a 409, it was still pretty darn quick. These days, I'm more the red Bel Air guy.

Great lookin Chev. I reckon the 327 with a T10 would be the pick of the bunch.

Big blocks... too much cast iron over the front wheels... can't
be good for changing direction.

My parents, when I turned 16, to my pleasant surprise, bought a fire engine red 1965 Chevy Impala two door coupe. And said I could drive it when ever I wanted. Talk about a chick magnet. WOW!!!

The 65 Impala hard top 4 door was my favourite Chev. They were in Australia in right hand drive.
I drove over a mechanics foot in a 327 example as I was backing it out of the work shop...
If it was a big block he would have been limping for a lot longer. ;-/

I had a 62 SS409. Paid $825 for it in 1965 and sold it later for $900. My favorite car ever even though it got 11.5 MPG.

I believe this is an example of early 60's Chevy design. Large fins have been eliminated

Beautiful! Would be a sleeper, except for the flags on the front fender.

My new wife brought a green 4-door w/a destroyed 6-cyl into our marriage. I found, and installed, a 283 with just a couple of thousand miles… then sold my car to help us get started.

Holy crap! I am getting old... I completely missed the flags on the OP photo. What a great sleeper. I figured it was a six-banger based on the trim and the blackwalls. I had buddies who had the big blocks. One was a 1958 Chevy with the 348 and 3x2's and the other the top horsepower 409 with 2x4's. Both had to be screwed with constantly to keep them running. Both were fast when they ran. I never thought the extra 25 or so HP was worth all that constant adjustment. That's why I was always partial to small blocks... turn the key and go.
