some of my timepieces...

George

Watch on the left was given to me by my Daughter. As you can see, it is photography-themed. The middle watch was a gift from my Wife. The case and face are of wood. The third was a running watch I used when I used to do that.

The top watch is a Casio solar system watch. The right-most watch is one I bought on an Uncle Sam-sponsored visit to Asia in 1972. It is a Seiko Bell alarm watch. You wind it by oscillating the watch with your wrist.

My first "Apple Watch". (The watch marked 10-15 years at my place of employment) The second image speaks for itself. Timing is crucial in sports and digital is everywhere. So many races, medals, etc. are decided by hundredths of seconds....We definitely seems to be a society built around "time" as a measure of efficiency, identity, productivity and more.I dislike being ruled by a measure of time..

I agree Pat, hate being ruled by time, Come on Faster, Hurry up, what took you so long.
Hell what is the hurry, what are racing for!!! In Athletics any race over 400 meters they all wear watches, they are pacing themselves and racing the clock as opposed to there opponents which I think spoils the sport, need to beat there best Time as opposed to First, Second or Third

Certainly sentimental attachments. The wooden face one is especially appealing to me.

Grandson won't wear a watch. I have seen coaches or assistants shouting out lap times as their runners raced past. Instead of watches (unless it's a smart watch or specific sport watch) folks seem more inclined to check their phones or computers for the time.....interesting how marking "time" changes through the decades.

I can't imagine making (or repairing) such complicated mechanisms. They are beautiful.

I will start the challenge with time pieces, way back thousands of years ago time was told by sundials and different water devices and then we got around to clocks and in 1505 Peter Henlein created the first pocket watch and it wasn't until 1810 that Abraham Louis Breguet created a wristwatch for the Queen of Naples, this caught on with the ladies but it took a fare while before men started wearing them. We seem to have come a long way since then.
Would be very interested to see your timepieces and the story behind them, if any.

I had a watch that served me very well for a very long time. In fact I’m sure that I must have purchased and installed at least 3 different replacement bands on it, but the last time the band broke……

My husband has a FitBit watch, we have a clock in most rooms and the car.

Good to see you all! Good to be back with a fresh computer.
I, like many other retirees have discarded my time piece. But it was TIME today to pick veggies from my very small garden. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Continue on!
