Any 10 pin wireless remote will work
I use the direct wired MC30A which has a long enough cable so that the camera is not touched or moved. Long exposures are no problem( no motion).

The Nikon D800 dates to 2012. SnapBridge didn't come into being until 2016. The camera can't utilize it.
Your not missing much . I found SnapBridge a pain in the ass. It works then it don’t off and on . I love my 10 pin wireless remote works every time

This is something to mention. Nikon's pro level cameras use the 10 pin connection for a wired or wireless remote. This includes the D8xx cameras. The consumer grade cameras use something else. When ordering a wireless remote, check the camera compatibility.

I have used the ML3 for a few years without a problem. I typically use it for long exposures with a tripod.

I use Cowboy Studio wireless. It is hover 4 years old and still works great for me. $30 + -
I have the CamRanger2 and am very pleased with it. It doesn’t need to be mounted in the hot shoe. As of late I have been playing with a Miops Smart+, I find it harder to figure out. Direction are not as easy to follow and are not as complete as they could be. But it has a lighting mode that I don’t have with my CamRanger2. The Miops smart 2 also does not transmit an image for viewing before for focusing or after for determining your results. So CamRanger is my first choice for every thing except lighting.

I also wanted a wireless remote for my Canon 5D and my Canon 1v-HS. No such luck even if it was a different model. So I checked and individual camera manufacturers have their own shutter release port.
Try checking out wired shutter releases.
I have included a photo of mine but you can get one paired for Nikon.
The handheld remote on the left is an infrared remote.

Vello has a wireless ShutterBoss IV with the transmitter and receiver for less than $50.00 with a dedicated hot shoe that fits on your camera flash mount. Has a range of over 30' when it is mounted on a tripod. I have used the Vello ShutterBoss 2 for a long time and have had no problems using it. The only difference is that my version takes a CR3 battery in the receiver and the remote takes 2 AA batteries, but the new ones take 2 AA batteries in the remote and receiver.

A wireless remote shutter is generally dedicated to one camera make and model. Many photographers can carry several cameras. A universal wired controller can be switched to support different manufacturer cameras. So you can still use the same controller for your Nikon, your Canon and your Fuji, just switch your adaptor between cameras
With the CamRanger you just need a different cable for connection. I
