Nikon E5400 replacement

My introduction to the world of digital photography came when my family got me a Nikon E5400 for Father's Day way back when. I took it everywhere I went; I was a tech rep in graphic arts and packed it for every trip out of town. It did what I wanted it to do and nicely and conveniently. I have since made the progression from that E5400 to a Nikon D70s to D80 to D300 to D7100 to D850. I gave the E5400 to an old friend who likes its size and weight for her usage. Alas, her E5400 is getting to the point where it should be retired and replaced. I would like to surprise her with a suitable replacement. One of the biggest challenges with the E5400, it cannot use CF cards greater than 2GB. She has a Nikon D7000 but does not use it much because of its size and weight compared to the E5400. Looking for options for her.

Check out the premium compacts like the Canon G5X, Sony RX100, Lumix ZS100 etc. If she can consider larger cameras, consider the Olympus Pen series with a pancake lens.

I still use the E5000 which is the older version of the E5400. I think a good replacement would be something like the Panasonic Lumix LX100. A small, 3x zoom compact camera.

Perhaps I should have added that the m4/3 cameras have pancake zooms as well as pancake primes.

I've been a Nikon guy for 50+ years and recently bought a Sony RX100 M3. I LOVE it and can only assume the newer versions are even better than the M3. Good luck with your search. Take care & ...

Check out the Nikon P900. Used about 400-500 bucks and an amazing camera
