If y'all have a shortage of these bad boys, I could ship you a few along with a few copperheads and the occasional rattlesnake. Could also send a few alligators too.

I would love to photograph a rattlesnake in the wild. Once when hiking I ran across some young ladies who had spotted one along the trail and I wish it had been me who spotted it

One time we were hunting quails in Quanah ,Texas . It was a warm day in November, while looking for birds on a hill we stepped back from a rattle snake nest. Our dog jumped in , barked vigorously and got bit twice in his rear legs. We shot and killed 5 of those snakes and saved the dog. We brought him to the vet to get several shots. It took him a week to recover . The snakes were out of their nest to get some warm sun rays in the afternoon.

Glad you were able to save the dog and no one got bit. Even though it was an unusually warm day I never expected to see a snake.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who stops for portrait sessions with venomous snakes (in my case, rattlesnakes). I like these photos.

Those cotton mouth snakes are aggressive. You may be too close. I’ve been inthe same situation many times and actually stepped in a copper heada number of years ago. Felt likestepping on a large garden hose. A big one. In the dark. Was able to get a garden hoe on it and kill it. Our home is built on “ copperhead hill”. We have had 2 in the house over the years. None lately. We had one at our greenhouse this year. My helper couldn’t get it. The greenhouse is next to my garden. Almost grabbed one in my turnip patch, years ago. It looked like a big turnip. Right before I grabbed it, it moved. I drew my hand back, got the hoe and killed it. My children and grandchildren help pick vegetables. So much for life on a ranch. It is nice not having close neighbors.

Great shots. I wouldn't have the mind to take photos as I'd be moving so quickly in the opposite direction. Mahalo for sharing.

Great story, Jerry and good shots of a potentially bad dude. Snakes of this coloration blend in so well with their background. Having accidentally stepped on several non-venomous species growing up, I learned very early to watch where you step in the woods. That habit has saved me numerous times.

Thanks Bubba.

Thank you. I would love to photograph rattlesnakes but not in my yard.

I was born and raised on a farm and there were copperheads in our neck of the woods. Never in the house though. They were especially bad around our barn.

This first picture of the boat dock was taken recently with my phone's camera and is a big part of this story. On February 3, 2020 we had an unusually warm 70+ degree day so on a day like that who doesn't want to get out? I went to our state conservation area hoping to get some bird shots, especially an eagle and I had photographed an eagle before on one of those trees in the lake. So getting out of my car and walking to the end of that dock I was looking up never looking down to where I was stepping. There was nothing to photograph so after a minute or two decided to go back to the car. While walking back I was looking down and spotted this large cottonmouth that evidently I had walked past. At another time I nearly stepped on one in some weeds about 4 inches tall. After those experiences I never put my foot down on the ground without first looking when I'm in that area
