This is a great system!
I had a set for a number of years.
Never had any glitches with mine.

Does this only work with Nikon flashes or with Nikon compatible flashes like Neewer?

I love mine! They are great! Even sets off my hard wired lights. Almost as good as Pocket Wizards and much more affordable. Mine are for Canon, but these are a great buy for anyone looking for slaves.

"Does this only work with Nikon flashes or with Nikon compatible flashes like Neewer?"

Joe, I have the Nikon version which work fantastic with my Nikon SB700 and SB910 as well as my Shanny SB600SB Speedlights (which are a Nikon SB910 clone). Most amazingly they work flawlessly with HSS. That said I downloaded and installed the latest firmware for both the Phottix Odin and Shanny Units

Caveat: Please use alkaline AA batteries which are a full 1.5volts
eneloops only are rated at 1.2volts and cause timing issues with the Phottix Odin transmitter/receiver.

As for Neewer speedlights? I remember that some Neewer speedlight users were having issue after a firmware update. Google is your friend here, but keep in mind these are over a half decade old... while Phottix has a support web site believe that they have moved on to supporting their latest offerings.

btw, if Bill sells these units I have the very same piece of kit that I will sell you... Yes I still have the boxes and support CD's (don't lose them they have the product manual).

Hope this helps... again great product...
