wide angle FX lens.
Not certain how these lenses will operate on a D800.
1. Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens for Nikon F $649 at B&H
2. Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens $277 at B&H
I've got the Nikon 10-20mm that I've used on my D7200. It works well for me.
Good luck hunting.

Good lens, great price, wrong application - it's a DX lens, so it would not be so great on an FX camera.
You might look at the Nikon 10-20mm. it's $306 at B&H Photo. Inexpensive but pretty decent.

You might read previous posts on this old thread.
You could learn something.
That DX lens has been suggested and the OP had a Full_frame camera then.
Besides, the OP’s last post was in 2020.
May have already decided on something or left this site.
Zombie resurrection of 2016 thread.
Why?

Had the Nikon 14-24 2.8. Used it so seldom that I traded it for the 28-300 & some money. Now i find I should have at least a decent wide angle lens. Can any one recommend a good fairly inexpensive FX wide angle? Third party OK. (It's for a D800.)
Thanks,

You traded away a great lens for a very mediocre one. Reconsider why you rarely used the 14-24 when you start looking for a lens that is wider than 28mm. You may be just buying another lens that will get very little use. You may want to think about learning to stitch panos in Lilghtroom or Photoshop - it will save you a lot of $$ down the road.
Look at my images in the Panorama section on UHH. They were all done as stitched panos and some are pretty wide.

I guess you missed the part about looking for a full frame lens...that one is DX

And you missed the part about this thread being from 2016.
