I took Drivers Ed along with two girls in one of these. 1962, I was being punished for an extremely fast take off the day before. All my friends got a big hee haw out of the situation.

I couldn't agree more with you. These cars (and others) put Chrysler on the road to Fiat.

My guess is with that scoop, the owner put the 426 Hemi in it, which is what I would do. Hemi orange and dog dish hub caps speaks loudly. As for Ugly, it's in the eye of the beholder and I love the early 60s Mopars.

There's a long story about the design of 62 Plymouths and Dodges that involves an overheard Ed Cole comment about the upcoming Chevy II/Nova and Virgil Exner's heart attack. That's why some design elements, like the horizontal "fin," look odd. Although... pictures of the prototype 62 Plymouth look odd too.

No, it wasn't the styles. It was their terrible QC. Bad reliability from anything coming out of Chrysler Corp. to this day. One of the reasons why they always been #3 of the 3 US manufacturers. Their quality and reliability products are sub par to anything coming out of Japan, or Japanese products assembled here and Canada.

So Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler are crap to me in comparison to what's out there from the competition.

After working on cars of many brands for over 30 years, every one of them have produced piles of crap throughout the history of the automobile. A couple come to mind are early Ford Mustangs, Chevy Vega, Corvairs, early Corvettes, Ford Pinto, AMC Pacer, etc etc.

Certainly the low point in Mopar styling, but the ugly duckling certainly had some appeal as being different and equipped with the Max Wedge engine it was a terror on the dragstrips! These cars were so ugly that they were cool, then and now!

Some learned the hard way. I stuffed a 440 in a 66 Plymouth Valiant wagon that surprised a lot of fast GM and Ford people. Chrysler was a leader in many ways.

Tell me about it, I got crucified with an AMC Matador, Dodge Caravan, and Jeep Cherokee. I was one of the idiots.

These days I stick to Japanese. European cars are too expensive to repair. And Chrysler Corp. has throughout the decades constantly kept their bad reliability in comparison to the competition.
