I just noticed...
I am in the camp of placing two spaces after a period. I just noticed UHH removes the double spaces.

It
used to also remove duplicate carriage returns.

Use to have to go:

.
To get vertical spacing.

Right. They fixed that? Good to know. We still have to do that to get a space between text and attached image.

Somewhere in the past I believed that two character spaces after a period was correct however at some point I noticed no-one else was doing that so I stopped.

Never let the herd dictate your style!! LOL.
FYI - Microsoft Word removes them by default. That could be why you have noticed a decreased in use of the two spaces.

Well, then they have a lot of double spaces to remove in my posts since I learned it as part of "penmanship" and "typing" (not keyboarding) I learned on an early IBM electric in High School in 1959. Then I got a Remington Travel Writer for Christmas my sophomore year and started typing all my school reports etc. My English Comp teacher actually sent a thank you note to my Mom. My handwriting was/is very small and hard to read, it hadn't improved since I got the "best cursive writer in class" certificate back in 2nd grade-Catholic school and yes they taught cursive in second grade.

You wanna use two spaces after a period, use two!!!
If it will make you feel better, I'll start using two. I've no problem with two. If I can just remember.
(Who counts them by the way?
)

Hmm - I just created a word document and tested it. Two character spaces after a period was allowed.

Unless I miss my guess, Word will allow any number of spaces.

OH! That is good to know.
Perhaps you reset the default at some point? or they changed it to allow it.

They have this thing called a computer, it can remove a lot of spaces in milli-seconds. LOL.
There is still an ongoing controversy about 1 or 2 spaces. That's why I said I'm in the 2-spaces camp.
Hmm interesting that UHH removed the two spaces in your original post, but on my computer the "quote" part, I can see the two spaces but then they don't appear above after posting.

With some of the fonts and screen resolutions, two IS better!

My first wife was a Katherine Gibbs graduate. She used two spaces. I tolerated that.
When I started writing HTML I found that it used one space, no matter how many I put in there. If you want a large space there are special HTML characters for that. Have not checked recently...
